Default Catalytic converter flow question.

Does the 2002 z06 cat flow better than the main cat on the regular cars?
In other words if you have a h-pipe without pre cats, does a 2002+ Z06 pipe still flow better?

Good luck.

This is just a guess but I would think that the 2001/2004 cats without the pre cats would flow better. My reasoning goes like this. The Z06 cats must do the work of 4 cats and hence must have more surface area to clean up the exhaust .This will give more restriction. Just my guess.

The pre-cats were only added for cold-start emissions as they warm up quicker than the main cats. The 2 cats don't have to do "the work of 4" as stated above. The dimensions for the main cats appear to be similar between the '01 and '02 up Z06 cars that I've seen. I'll be ditching all 4 soon when I install my longtubes, track numbers will tell me how much of a restriction they really are.

Both those articles point out that the reduction in resriction was due to the elimination of the "pup cats". The main cats were not compared. If they are the same size as stated above then I would expect similar restriction. Also the article stated that the Z06 cats had two bricks. This could cause slightly more bp.

Thats what I was thinking, that if the Z06 cats are 3-way, and the main cats on the non-z06 cars are 2 way, then the non-z06 main cats w/o the pups will flow better than the z06 cats.

I wondering this because I have a 2002 h-pipe, non z06, that has the pups, and I am thinking that with the pups eliminated that I ought to get decent flow, at least enough to support 375RWHP through 02 style exhaust manifolds.
