Earlier I had a problem with cool running temps and the forum suggested to change the thermostat. I bought a 170 degree stat and now I realise that there is a sensor in the elbow of the stat. The replacement stat doesn't have a provision for the sensor. Does anyone know where I can buy a 170 degree stat with the sensor provision or must I drill a hole and tap in the threads? I believe the sensor is for the fan?
I bought the thermostat from Eckler's and it is for a 97-2003 LS1. The part is the same but doesn't have the hole for the sensor.
So you're saying that the STOCK t-stat is the one with the sensor? Any chance you cam post a picture of it?
I changed out the stat on my '99 TransAM and on my '01 C5 coupe, and neither had any sensors in or on the stat housing. It was just 2 bolts and an o-ring on both of them. I think there might have been a hose or wire bundle of some sort 'attached' to the housing on the TransAM, but that was just a convenient place to mount it so it wasn't loose in the engine compartment. It would have connected to the hole to the far left in this picture of a stock housing.
Thanks for the reply, my C5 Conv is mag red with an oak top. ARPAD is on the plate. See you cruising in the spring. She is parked for the winter. I will post pics of the thermostat housing and I just my take it off over the holidays and try to figure out what the prior owner did.
