odd problem with Park.
Oh, and it hardly ever happens back to back, once you pop it out, its normaly ok for the rest of the day, but now park it for a while (24-72hrs) and then try again. Every time the car set for a while it came back. Maybe this is why it only came up when I stoped using the car on a daily basis, and the same for you as you were sick, so how interesting. After the very first time I got it out like you and it worked when I turned the car off and on, I thought it was just a one time silly thing, wish I was right :(
When it does it again, take the **** off, the spring, and the white plastic pin. Then take a screw driver and push the center metal rod down until you hear the park brake click. The problem is that the button, no matter how hard you press it and hold down the brake, doesn't unlock the brake before shift feature, but taking the button off and doing it diretly did as you have more play then what you can do with the **** and button on.
After you hear the click you will be able to use it right away. Do the above while holding the brake down of course. Taking the button/**** off takes about 1 minute, and that was a lot better then the 10-15 minutes of shaking and hiting the shifter it used to take. Don't worry, that's not the fix though, as I would hate to go through that every time also, but at least I could move the car when I wanted to, and something for you to try.
More importantly, after donig this a few time, it rearely happens now, when before, it started slowly then to almost every time the car set for more then 24 hours! What ever got stuck seems to have went away by pushing the metal rod down a few times myself further then what the button can reach. I haven't had the time, but I want to also take the boot off (requires removing the console, thus the time issue) and while puching the shift rod down, get a better look at what is going on, and maybe using some WD40 to loosen things up.
Last, another thing that works now after the few times of doing the above is patience. Now if it gets stuck, instead of pressing the button down and getting upset that it does not respond right away, I simply keep holding the button down with the brake for about 5 seconds while apply light pressure back to reverse, and it comes out after only a few seconds. BEfore I would have to shake the heck out of it like a mad man.
Sorry none of this sound scientific or a simple fix like take this pin out, or adjust this, or its a fuse, but it has worked for me, and better then the dealer braking more then what they fix and charging me for it. Worse case, take your console out, and I'm sure you'll be able to fix it.
