Got a high pitched whistle noise in the engine bay. Seems to be more on the left side. Not sure if it is an air sound or a metal sound. Rises and falls with the rpm. One of the pulleys maybe? Seems to go away or lessen after car has been driven a while. I checked the intake stuff - seems tight.
The only thing changed lately was new cat backs. Used the old exhaust gaskets.
Ideas?
yea, i dont know if mine is the same noise, but it makes it between about 1300-1500 rpms. i'm also having different belt noises as well. i'm about to go crazy on both. the 1300-1500rpm noise is not nearly as bad however. sounds like some sort of exhaust leak
This is a documented C5 problem. It is due to the intake manifold turblance. If your car is in warrenty the dealer may be able to fix it!

Whistle Noise From Intake Manifold/Throttle Body (Replace Intake Manifold) #02-06-01-021 - (05/22/2002)
Whistle Noise From Intake Manifold/Throttle Body (Replace Intake Manifold)
2001 Chevrolet Corvette
with 5.7L Engine (VINs G, S -- RPOs LS1, LS6)
Condition
Some owners may comment on a whistle noise coming from either the intake manifold or the throttle body. The noise is most noticeable between 1100 and 2000 RPM.
Cause
This condition may be the result of airflow through the intake manifold.
Correction
Replace the intake manifold with the part listed below.
I had this problem on my '01 Z06. The dealer replaced the manifold. I still had a slight whistle. After two more trips to Mr Goodwrench, he determined that my water pump was making the noise. He replaced the waterpump and the noise was reduced but not eliminated. Another year later, and I now have a loud whistle from my engine when cold. The car has only 12k on it. What next?
