Default Hypertech Programmer

When I ordered a Hypertech Programmer I heard good things about making tons of horsepower but when I reprogrammed it, it barely showed. Ary they not good on a lightly modded LS1?

You're a little on the gullible side, aren't you? First AvGas and now a Hypertech.

I don't know where you heard good things about it, but it wasn't on any of the Vette forums. Was it some self-proclaimed expert at your High School?
Stop listening to whoever, and do some research first.

:iagree: They worked very good with the LT1 & 4's but there's to much going on in the C5 system. :D

:nonod: I bought one for my Tahoe and a big waste of money in my opinion.
It also seems as if it slows it down

Hi 1969stingray1969,

The only thing those handheld programmers are good for is for adjusting the speedometer for Tire/Gear Changes. Everything else you are better off getting a custom LS1-Edit Tune. I also learnt this the hard way having forked $ 385 for a Predator then receiving NO support from Diablo Sports. So I figured I will be better off ( & running with more power ) by getting a custom tune ( vs. a generic tune ) for MY mods. :seeya

If you hvae an automatic, they're great. You can adjust shift firmness, shift points for each gear, rev limiter, cooling fans turnon points, etc, etc. And, when you sell or trade the car, return it to stock and resell the the Hypertech to another with the same year and make vehicle. Predator, while a good unit, marries itself to the first vehicle it is used on, forever. It cannot be resold. Not sure if LS1 Edit is worth it on a near stock machine. The choice is your, but Hypertech, IMHO, certainly can be a valid choice.

So what exactly does the Hypertech modify (besides Auto trans stuff.) I've seen these thinngs around for a long time, but no one seems to know exactly what parameters they change.
Add timing? Change WOT fuel maps?

Anyone?

If you have an a4, and use the thermostat, they are well worth it. The performance gains are there if you live in an area where 93 octane is available. Factory program is set for 91 octane. I bought mine used for $200, which is close to the price of a stand alone fan controller. I am now just a pair of drag radials or TC away from 12 sec time slips with a basically stock car.
