Default Oil Analyzing Lab Recommendations

About 20 years ago I periodically had my engine oil analyzed, but have not done it since. Can someone recommend a lab that is reasonably priced and has a quick turn around time?

I use Terry Dyson. He has his own lab and also works with Blackstone. If you go with Blackstone, simply note you want package #46 (Terry Dyson Analysis). You will get all analysis including TBN, plus Terry will look at your results and provide you an analysis. Some might think this is not useful, but let me tell you I just had him do another for me and he not only pinpointed how I was driving the car, but several other things about the car that blew me away that he could figure out from an oil analysis. He is very very good. If you need more information on Terry or his contact information, let me know. He is out of town right now for the holiday's though.

Thanks,

I just ordered a kit. What does TBN stand for?

TBN is the total base number. It reflects the amount of capability of the oil that is left to neutralize acids, etc. It is essentially the remaining capabilty of the additive package of the oil. Try this web site for more information, there are a lot of very knowledgable people there. I also just posted my used oil analysis for my 02 in the Used Oil Analysis Section. Terry also has a link from the home page.
