Hi all,
Has anyone changed out their + and - battery cables? I want to attempt this due to my old stock batt and acid drips........thanks Delco! I have heard it is difficult and want to know more. Thanks
I replaced the positive cable on my 2000 for the same reason. The negative cable was not damaged. The positive cable connection to the starter was the hardest part. There is not much room to get a wrench in there, but it can be done. You can only move your wrench in a small arc. The service manual actually called out removing the exhaust pipe I believe to get better access. I found that I did not have to do that. Of course you need to remove the battery and tray. GM is proud of that cable and I paid dearly for it at a local dealer, but I was desparate at the time. If it's not an emergency yet I recommend you check with GMpartsdirect or Fichtner.
I now have a 2004 and it appears that the cable replacement procedure is different than it was for my 2000 (according to the 2004 service manual). Might be because they changed to a top post battery this year.
