This summer, when I was drag racing, there was a noticable difference when I raced with half a tank of gas in comparison to almost empty.
If I'm not mistaken, half a tank of go-go juice should be just over 50 lbs.
This has me considering relocating my battery to the rear of the car.
There should be a noticable difference by removing 40+ lbs. from the front and placing it in the rear.
I've been looking for a kit for our C5 vette's to no success.
Anyone aware of such a kit, or an outline what materials would be required for such a project?
You can mount a battery in either of the "well" pockets in the rear with no worry of movement. I have an aux battery in my rear now for the vehicles strobe, sound, light and NOS system.
If your '03 has the AC Delco AGM battery, it weighs around 33lbs (weighed mine after it died). The AC Delco AGM's have been discontinued (low sales, perhaps high failure rate). Spec-wise the Delco AGM looked good (leakproof, relatively lightweight/small, etc.).
You'll want a quality leakproof battery for interior mounting. Recently researched leakproof batteries, and found the Hawker Energy batteries to be the lightest/smallest/most-powerful. You might contact http://www.odysseybatteries.com for battery selection and mounting parts/info.
Optima Red Top 75/35 (~34lbs) might also work well (available retail). Yellow Top for more weight (deep cycle; not ideal for a starter battery). For more weight, the Odyssey (Hawker) 1200 is claimed to be best design (has both Starter and Deep Cycle usage capabilities).
Just FYI, if you plan on drag racing, you MUST install it in a sealed box. Summit sells some I think. Also, use the biggest gauge wire you can get - in my Camaro I used 0 gauge (about the thickness of my thumb).
