Re: What are people do for weight reduction??? (Bone_Stock)
I added a SC that way I didnt have to worry about weight. You can take out the AC, the stereo system, go to a halltenator, and the electric water pump. get rid of the passenger seat, take out the carpet, and all the door trim pieces but then you have an undrivable car. But there isnt a ton of excess in these cars.
Re: What are people do for weight reduction??? (Bone_Stock)
The easy ones that don't alter the functionality of the car are:
Switch to Ti exhaust - probably about 20-30 lb weight savings
Switch to non runflats. That'll be another 20 lbs - this time it's rotating mass, so even more important.
I guess next is a carbon fiber hood, but I don't know what the weight savings are.

Re: What are people do for weight reduction??? (LittleBoyBlu99)
I ride the bike three times a week, and lift four to five times a week :jester. There isn't a bunch you can do to a corvette esp a Z06. I guess you coud get a carbon fiber hood, trunk lid, and I think Halltech might be making CF fenders (not sure). SUper light wheels, lighter racing seats, etc...
Re: What are people do for weight reduction??? (Bone_Stock)
Anyone switch to manual steering? I'm not planning on doing it myself, but am curious what the results would be, in terms of steering effort and weight removed.
Re: What are people do for weight reduction??? (Bone_Stock)
I had the same question, but already answered it myself; i.e. there isn't a lot to remove in these cars. More HP is one way, but that doesn't do anything for braking or handling (which are just as important as acceleration). Guess I need to go on the Jenny Craig program as well! :smash:
The is not a whole lot you can take out of the car without getting it to be a pure race car.
Here are some tips.
Seats weigh in at about 50 lbs. Switch to light weight racing seats and pick you up a whole lot.
Wheels are pretty heavy. Lighter weight wheels (specially skinnies up front) can be worth 70 or so pounds.
Exhaust was already mentioned is worth about 20 when you switch to Ti
CD and the changer (20 lbs in my car) and you still have the radio for tunes
The cuby hole covers in the back are about 10 lbs
Empty the glove box and center counsole (got any tools in there?)
Floor mats about 10 lbs (specially if you don't vacuum) and if you want to go crazy, the carpeting in the back is about 20 and comes out and back in very easy
Many many other little 2+ lb type stuff if you want to invest the time in stripping it.
Fluids as in gas and windshild washer can be reduced
Re: What are people do for weight reduction??? (Bone_Stock)
I want to not lose any functionality, so my options are:
- Z06 Exhaust - 20lbs
- LGM Long Tube Headers - 20lbs
- CF Hood - 15lbs
- Non-Runflats - 20lbs of Rotating Mass (like losing 60)
- Lighter flywheel (now the car may lose some streetability) - 10lbs (like 50)
- Skinnies (now you don't have a street car)
- Other things: (windshield washer fluid, fuel, your gut, junk in car)
Just do the first 4 and then work on adding horsepower IMHO.
