Default memory upgrade?

OK, a while back I had the driver's side window/mirror control panel repleced. After a couple days I noticed they replaced it with one that had the memory switches. What would it take to get the rest of that? If it hadn't been for that switch I wouldn't have thought about it ... but I've been thinking about it for a while.

I haven't performed this upgrade, but have researched it.

Evidently you need to add the "Seat Control Module," which resides under the driver's side seat. You must also have automatic climate control. I haven't been able to figure out if the wiring harness is the same or not.. I would guess it is -- so the SCM should be all you need.

If you decide to do this upgrade, please post back with your findings.

I like the memory option. It also works the telescoping steering wheel. If you don't have that, not sure how it would affect the operation of the memory function.

You can add the telescoping steering wheel option after you have the memory option installed. The only thing additional you need for that is the telescoping steering wheel and shaft assembly. You also will need to have the BCM programmed to enable the proper RPO code.

Edge, thanks for your input. So to control the seat I need the SCM. What about mirrors? Does the code need input for the seat/mirrors or just if I were to add the wheel (don't think I would).

heck it sounds do-able so far

I just read pulled out my previous notes....

The SCM is apparently part number 10435193 ("Front Seat Adjuster Module"). You may also need a new wiring harness for the SCM, part number 12455470 ("Harness"). Price at GMPartsDirect.com for both shipped is $244.75. Check with someone like Vette2Vette for used parts though. You can probably get them quite a bit cheaper. It looks like the SCM should be able to retain settings for the seats, mirrors, climate, radio, and steering wheel.

I just found some info on the BCM reprogramming. It looks like you'll need to go somwehere that has Tech 2 to add the RPO code. "Memory Driver Convenience - RPO AAB". "Power Tilt / Telescope Column - RPO N37" is a separate option.

It would be expensive, but not necessarily impossible. You have to replace the left door control module, add a seat control module and I believe a couple of harnesses. I also believe, you have to replace the entire seat, or at least the seat tracks since the limit switches are part of the seat tracks. (This would have to be confirmed by a parts manual.)

The BCM may also have to be replaced (if they use different BCMs for different applications), at the minimum; the BCM would have to be reprogrammed to recognize the entry/exit function.

Position sensors in the seat determine the memory seat positions, and these settings are retained in the left door control module. The BCM is used to signal the memory system for entry/exit feature.

For memory outside mirrors, the left door control module retains the memory settings and adjusts the left mirror if required, the left door control module also signals the right door control module with the memory settings for the right outside mirror.

Now, to really add confusion to the system, the memory settings for the telescoping steering column are retained in the drivers seat control module, and the seat control module controls all memory functions of the telescoping column. A position sensor, internal to the steering column, signals the steering column position for setting and operation to the driver seat module. Again, the BCM signals the module if the entry/exit feature is activated.

As for the memory A/C radio functions, those are retained by the BCM as determined by what is set the last time the driver’s door is cycled open/close. It is possible to have memory seats and mirrors without the telescoping wheel.

Prior to me purchasing, my car was replaced without the memory control buttons and everytime I get in the car it moves the seat and mirrors. I need to replace my drivers side panel with the one you have. Are you interested? Let me know Thanks,

PS does anyone know price and availability of that switch panel on the drivers side door?
