Do you need to remove the torque tube/transmission/rear assembly to get the engine out or is there enough room just sliding it froward off the shaft with the steering rack/fans/radiator removed?
I had to remove the streering rack and drop the front suspension crossmember a few inches and it came right out. Just swing the motor forward to clear the torque tuble and lift out.
No need to remove the torque tube, just the shield. Also no need to remove fans or radiator. Take off all accessories, leave the a/c compressor in the engine bay with the lines attached, and you can even leave the heads on. I removed mine with the intake manifold in place, but in hindsight, it would have been easier to remove it. Let me know if you want any details on the job.
Hi,
I removed the power steering pump and reservoir, starter, exhaust manifolds and water pump. I left the radiator and air compressor in the car. If you disconnect the bellhousing you don't need to take out the subframe. Take off the intake and you can get the upper bolts from the top. I used an Engine Leveler device between the hoist and the engine to make it easier to maneuver in the engine bay.
Good luck,
Steve
Hey Guy did you get it out ?
I hope we can keep the thread going on all the pit falls of engine removal.
I've learned a bunch from all the guys on here.
John
You can remove the engine from the top, but make sure that you engine hoist has enough reach to get to the center line of the engine and enough lift to clear the front end of the car when placed (the car) on jack stands
No problem with the engine crane size here....heh heh....anyway...the block is stripped and I am waiting for the new shortblock to continue. I can remove the bellhousing but is the clutch gonna be in the way?
