will a set of aftermarket headers for a 2001 fit properly on a 99? I see that BBK had different part numbers for 97-99, 00, 01-03. Whats different?
The position of the small flange that comes off the header and connects to the AIR tube is different. If the ones your looking at have collector flanges welded on, those could be different as well.
97-00 headers have the passanger side air tube connection flange on/near the #8 cylinder exhaust tube. 01-up have the air tube connection on/near the #6 cylinder exhaust tube. Also, 97-00 aftermarket headers have the accomodating dip stick tube mount on the #6 cylinder exhaust tube. Basically, you can use a 01-up header on a 97-00 C5... just need to change the air tube (difference in length) that wraps around the rear of the motor from the older shorter style to the newer longer style.
FYI, considering longtubes... there really is no difference between all C5 years on the driver side.
Also, recommend 97-00 GM stainless steel sandwich style gaskets on header installs. I do not recommend paper gaskets under any circumstances... nor do I recommend the use of silicone RTV to seal ANY head-to-header gasket. Gasses emitted from the super heated RTV will destroy oxygen sensors.
