IM realtively new and IM sure this has been brought up at least 100 times....so heres 101. I live in Florida and am terrified of water getting in, so which is the best intake setup for the most HP gain?.......02 Z O6
I would say the vortex would probably be best. I don't think it would be very easy to get water in due to its high position. I have vararam on my vette, haven't had a problem with water but I guess if you have a lot of flooding vararam wouldn't be good. Its pretty low and could get water easier. In my opinion those 2 are the top performers right now. You shouldn't get water in either of those intakes under NORMAL conditions, but if you plow through a puddle pretty fast or deep, that might be a problem. Just my opinion, hope that helps.

Actually, it's more like 1000 times. :smash: :smash:  But who's counting. If you do not get enough replies because most guys are tired of posting to intake questions, you can do a search and type in INTAKE and grab a coffee and you will have enough reading to last until bed time. Have fun. By the way, I like the Blackwing.
Be afraid I hydo's a new Heads and Cam motor about 2 years ago with a bottom feeder I got from MTI, it worked great until I got caught in a sudden downpour in night time traffic, a quick dip and I was done--I have read numeous post however that no one has had a problem with a vararam and it is much higher off the ground than my bottom feeder was--now I just put on a Blackwing and to hell with the extra 1 or 2 potential hp--
Blackwing is another popular one I forgot to mention. Look at the vendors and see what design you like. Everyone is different, it depends what you value most, horsepower, ease of installation, price, theres a lot of factors to consider. All problems with rain seem to have the same thing in common, an aftermarket intake and getting into water thats too deep or went into it too fast. You should be carefull of that with any aftermarket intake, or even the stock one for that matter.

Just make sure you include the filters ability to perform the primary function of filtering air as opposed to a few extra HP. I went with the Donaldson. Unimpressed with the most popular's systems filter.
Everything I have read points to the Blackwing for us FL drivers that drive on a daily basis. I would rather lose the few HP, but have a little better chance surviving a rain storm. My 2 cents...
