Im interested in knowing what a ballpark figure is for this conversion with an upgraded clutch. I know my 4l60e is going to take a dump on me sooner or later, and the flp level 4 is 2k by itself, then I would need instalation. so if the cost would be comprable I would definitely consider it. Let me know guys.

If you go all stock parts.....bought from a guy like Gene from Karshop (so they are used but pristine condition) it will cost about $2000 for the parts. If you upgrade your clutch only, it will depend on which one. I went with the SPEC II/III Hybrid and SPEC Alum Flywheel so add another $750+. I also went with a Rodney (Crashed 94) bullet proof M6 tranny for about $1300. Some have gone with all stock parts without issues. I have a big motor and need the heavy duty parts. It depends on what hp you have really. Good luck.

I was set on a swap with a person in Chicago but it looks like that has fallen through. I am looking to do a swap for a manual and will be selling the auto with 7500 miles on it. I have heard good things about Gene down in Florida and used Rodney to do my 3:73's and I am a satisfied customer. Either one of those guys can set you in the right direction. I would send any used tranny to Rodney for a once over...the clutch can be inspeted(if used), the rest of the stuff..slave cylinder, master cylinder, new clutch set-up, is not to expensive to buy new. Torque tube and harnesses are expensive so Gene is the guy.

I was working a deal with a guy here in St. Louis. I might swap my built A4 for a M6 (Z06 tranny).

What about rear end change? If you're to from A4 with 3:15s will you be keeping the 3:15's. As you already know the stock MN6 has 3:42 gears, so expect your car to be a little slower. You may want to upgrade the reaer while they have it apart to save about 800.00 dollars in labor.

I've actually been thinking about doing this, but I'm trying to see if it would be less costly just to sell my A4-C5 outright and buy an MN6-C5 from someone else outright.

This is a good point. You will need 3.42's.

Why the M6? Wouldn't the Z06 tranny be better or is the price considerably higher? Just a thought

Depends on what you want out of the car. The Z06 tranny isn't any stronger or special other than the gearing. I would stick with the M6 tranny (I bought a bullet proof from Rodney) if you go with rear gears other than 3.42's.....just my opinion :)

Im just kicking the idea around now, Ill have to talk to Chris at ECS and see what he thinks. I like my auto, but find there are times when I wish it were manual. I guess it will come down to what kind of mood Im in when my A4 actually goes.

I would definitely stick with the M6 tranny then and not the Z06 IMO.

How do you find someone qualified enough to do this work. Typically you'd want someone that has done it before, right? Do they have to cut holes in the floor for clutch pad, ot other? Also, how do you go about finding out what parts are needed?

Parts:
Tranny
Tranny wire harness (specific to your year)
Torque Tube
Bellhousing
Clutch
Master cylinder
Slave cylinder
Clutch and brake pedal with switches
Shifter and boot
Shifter box, rod, and linkage
3.42 gears if you don't have them
PCM tuning

Any tuner that knows the C5 shold be able to do it IMO. Agostino is doing mine.but I can;t get the car to them because of the figgin SNOW :cuss :cry

All the holes are there. For the clutch and the brake pedal...the whole pedal assembly IS NOT needed, just the pedals, switches, and the bracket for the clutch pedal.

What about PCM tuning due to the gear change? I have HP III, will that work?

No. Your PCM needs to be flashed witha 6 speed program....then if your car is modded it will need to be tuned by LS1Edit.............
