Does anyone's parking brake hold your vette in the driveway while in neutral? I just had mine adjusted as much as possible, and can't get it to hold. All the componets are good. Any Ideas?
Is that what that handle is for, mine has never worked, that I know of. It is good for one thing, If you want to freak someone out pull up on it on the highway, They will brace themselves for nothing. :D
Mine didnt work when I got it.. it could barely hold the car on level ground... with 1000 miles on the car.. I took it to the dealer... they wanted to charge me for the repair... 50,000 car two months old and they wanted to charge me... then to add insult to injury they threatened me that if I tryed to fix my e brake myself that they would void my warranty.. needless to say I went home, adjusted it... once... that was five years ago.. the lever locks the ebrakes tight at less than half the pull on the lever... I could stop my car using the ebrake only while doing 30 miles an hour... I could park the car on a 45 degree hill , leave the trans in neutral.. and never fear the car would roll...
does anyone know of a fix for this, besides replacing all the componets and pads??
Did you read any of the above threads?????
why would anyone have to replace any of the components.. the car is not moving when the e brake is applied... nothing wears... the shoes will last forever... if you forget to disengage the ebrake the red light on the cluster should warn you..
Its a simple adjustment... Ive done four or five other friends C5's, after they tried to adjust it.. after I was done with the adjustment and put the rotor back on.,... they said OH!... none of them made their adjustment tight enough... to test that you dont have the adjuster too tight... park on a hill..with the ebrake engaged.. then slowlly lower the brake lever.. you will see that the ebrakes disengage with less than one inch of release.. None of my friends have ever had to make another adjustment..
MY ebrake locks up around 45/50 degrees.... 90 degrees being straight up// it disengages around 30 degrees... or one inch from lock up
Yes i do read all that other stuff, but mine was just adjusted, and it STILL doesn't work. That is what i was emplying!! I can still drive with mine on and it doesn't hold the car back!
I know you pull the roter off, is the adjuster right there? Do i have to remove anything else besides the the roter? This is the passenger side correct?

No this is incorrect..... you need to remove both rear wheels ( do I really have to say , you have to jack the car up first ) <---- just eluding to Dr Ron's comment..... Some one actually told me that I failed to include the jack up part in my instructions.. .
you need to remove the calipers (with the brake pads)... the caliper brakets and the rotors.... then you have to adjust the star adjuster untill you can not get the rotor on... then back off 2 or 3 clicks at a time until you can just get the rotor on.. ( OH I forgot to mention.. in order to get the rotor off, you need to disengage the e brake) Also, just because someone said they adjusted it, obviously they didnt do a good job..... also FYI.... when I adjusted my ebrake it was 44 clicks out of adjustment, just to give you an idea about how far it can be out... and this was 1000 miles out of the factory..
These instructions are sent with love and empathy

Re: Parking Brake problem? (z28plus)
Mine does. After having it adjusted two or three times, the dealer finally replaced the mechanism that is to the side of the console. Seems some of the pieces in there were stripped. Since then, it has held.
I guess we all have left are parking brake on and drove off. Power vs little p brake shoes half a mile later brake chatter and now they are like everyone elses.
Just got both my C5s parking brakes working. The dealer took three tries to get it right, I did the other in about 30 mins. The parking brake is supposed to be self-adjusting, but isn't. You must pull the rotors with brake off, and expand the shoes as far out as you can and still able to get rotor back on. This should give positive stop at about the 1/2 way position of the parking brake handle.
PS My FRC rolled backwards about 100' last year at an an Atlanta gas station and it could have been serious. Nobody was in the car, but it sure freaked me out !! :banghead:
