I am considering upgrading my early 99 convertible (#2395) to HUD, and I am assuming I will need to swap out the cluster (along with buying everything else). How much hassle is it to get the new cluster programmed with your existing mileage? Mine is a daily driver with over 65K miles, so I can't afford to be without it for several days.
I had mine done at
Autocraft, 1612 Hutton Dr. Suite 120 Carrolton, Tx.75006-6675. (972) 466-6200
You can send them the cluster and they will reprogram it.
I was planning on taking the new cluster to my dealer, and letting GM do it. I guess my real question is what mileage to use. If I use the current mileage on the car when I send the new cluster, I will be putting miles on the car using the current cluster while the new one is being programmed. As I explained earlier, my car is a daily driver, so I don't really want to have to park it while waiting on the new cluster to be programmed.
Anyone who has had this done, and has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.
I've heard Chevy dealers will reprogram odometers only if they are involved in switching instrument clusters. Maybe your dealer is different--I hope so. Good luck. Let us know what happens.
Unless your cluster is a 98 or an early 99 it probably is hun enabled. The only way to check is to remove the dash pad.If it not hud enabled just go to your local dealer and ask them for the number of the speedo shop that reprograms them. Then bring them both clusters and they will calibrate it for you.
These folks will reset your odometer. They are a Nippon Seiki repair shop/dealer. They have a shop around Detroit and also one on the east coast. I think they charge about $88 to do the reset. http://www.specmo.com/
It's beginning to sound like that I will have to get the mileage off mu current cluster, get a notorized letter with the mileage, and then buy and send off a new cluster, and wait to get it back. In the meantime, being without my daily driver, so the mileage doen't change.
All this, plus the cost of the parts to do the upgrade, is beginning to convince me to not to do the upgrade.
Thanks to everyone for the advice, that is what makes this forum great :yesnod:
