I have been hearing alot about this mod. Does anybody have detailed instructions and pictures on how to do this? I did a search and came up empty-maybe I did it wrong.
Thanks
Beware this mod! Until someone can prove that this method provides at least the same sealing integrity as that of the stock setup, then I would stay away. A good seal requires evenly-spaced and sufficient pressure to keep dirty air from getting past it. The zip-tie method does NOT look like it fulfills this requirement.

Works for me. See results in dyno below. Graphs are stock with K&N (rich condition) vs stock with K&N and LS1-edit tuning. No problems at all experienced with this mod.

If you have a 2002 Z06 you already have a very effective "lid" on your airbox. I doubt if the Tie_wrap mod will gain you anything and may give rise to some sealing problems.

Uh, I don't think a dyno graph proves that the zip-tie method is sealing adequately. No offense, but I pity the person who buys your car one of these days.
How much sealing pressure is required? It seems to me that air would get sucked through the filter before it would the seals around the filter. I have done the zip tie mod and can say with confidence that air is not going to get sucked in from around the seal unless your filter is completely plugged :flag
I hope you dont think that we just take the filter and zip tie it to the air box the filter frame is still in place over the filter putting pressure all the way around it

I used the factory clamps. I simply removed the factory metal straps and replaced them with shorter one made from wire ties. This allows for consistent pressure to the filter frame.
Here Mc Rat's car. They just wrapped the ties around the box. I re-used the factory hardware to allow you to change the filter.
Hope this helps...
This was worth 15HP on an otherwise stock Z06. The lid on the Z06 is better than the rest of the corvette lids. But the open element is a million times better than having a lid on.
