I'm sure you have read the press good and bad on the intake--I know how long you have worked on it because I have bugged you for way over year now, apparently know one is setting up the right combo or considering something---what combo do you recommend or are there any tuning changes that need to be done--one of the guys got good gains, one guy got moderate gains and a couple of guys are showing hp and tq losses--some input please on what size and setup for stock or strokers, H/C cars etc. any tuning tricks we're missing-
Re: Paging FAST--need some input on your intake (kumar75150)
I agree 100%, the TPIS is some 30% smaller than a full 90mm, it appears the guys who tested the 78mm version got some pretty good results even on the stroker--it could be my first thought is correct and that we simply don't have enough TB to pump the bigger manifold--Obviosly FAST has tested the larger version with the Fbody TB so we are missing something--FAST talk to us--
Re: Paging FAST--need some input on your intake (Cobra4B)
We've seen from just under 17rw with the 78mm on a 427 to negative increases and moderate, FAST needs to talk to us about their experiences in tuning for instance they typically run lean and need to be tuned in etc.
Re: Paging FAST--need some input on your intake (Bat Boy99)
The question is basically that FAST released the manifold with some pretty good numbers, what do we need to do to get those numbers, were the numbers based on certain tuning tech, only on stock, only on H/C cars, do you need certain head or header configurations to bring out the power, do they tend to run lean and require tuning after install, basically how should or on what configuration should we use this unit to bring out the power--so far the reviews are very mixed and tell us little as one guy gets great power the next guy gets none--what the hell's going on--we need the experts (FAST) to tell us don't waste your time on this or use it on that or add this etc. or here's how we did it. We will post the answers as well when we get them--
Re: Paging FAST--need some input on your intake (NEPTUNEBILL)
Here is the deal as I see it. I spoke extensively with the guys from FAST at SEMA. The intake seems to be almost the same design as an LS6 intake manifold. They made the runners higher and thicker so that they can be PORTED. In it's initial form that intake manifold can flow 20% better.
Some motor setups require more air from the inake side and would see greater gains. A lot of guys just unbolt a stock manifold and then bolt on the fast manifold and complain of small gains. This is often done without re-tuning the car for it's new added air flow. For guys running aggressive setups such as large cams and strokers they should be PORTING the manifold because that is what it was made for.
It's my belief that you will see great gains if you dyno tune the car after the install. If you your car requires more air then people should consider PORTING the manifold. Did I mention PORTING...subtle hint :D
Moral of story, port match to needs...tune..then evaluate. Also, most cars require more air from the manifold at high RPM's 6k+
Re: Paging FAST--need some input on your intake (RCswish)
I agree, it is however, an expensive manifold to carve up on a chance, and probably best left to the pro's, but some of our more aggressive tuners will probably post data once they get the process down--I hope they hurry with the 90mm TB so some testing can begin--Patrick at Vararam keeps telling me its not so much the manifold on these motors as it is having a TB that can properly feed the manifold's we have--a wideband on the intake side rather than the exhuast would probably be more usefull as well--
Re: Paging FAST--need some input on your intake (NEPTUNEBILL)
There was a lot of talk about these manifolds before they were released but now that they are out we are hearing very little. It would seem that someone could install the smaller one and an approprialte TB on a stock displacement engine and do some tuning and testing. I can understand that the stroker guys may have to wait until the bigger TB is available. We should be seeing something!
Re: Paging FAST--need some input on your intake (Z06 Blue)
I agree you would think the smaller setup would already be tuned in on someones stock bottom H/C unit with some results--so far the TPIS with modified ls6 intake is showing about 7rwhp on 346 and 15rw on the strokers, but I heard of another tuner today who lost 7rwhp putting the TPIS on the FAST over the basic TPIS setup, I'm not trying to sell TPIS I still hope the new intakes will work out great--I do not want to spend the bucks for a sheet metal intake but I am going to get a quote from Hogan and that will probably be 3K plus for gods sake--so come on FAST show me the power--I am been emailing Tony with FAST and he basically discussed my particular setup and was honest enough to say I probably needed a sheet metal for my setup to really let it breath but that their 90mm setup would deff show positive gains--
