My spec stg 3 clutch never seemed to break in right. It would chatter real bad from a stop in first gear. I had all stock 99 clutch master and slave. I recently had my trans rebuilt under warranty and while they had it apart i added a z06 Shift fork, 04 Z06 Clutch master and 04 Z06 Slave put in. I only had to pay 200 bucks in labor for a slave and master install. All new fluids too.
Well i got her back yesterday and its like a new car! The clutch clamps so much smoother no chatter at all! I can feel the difference in the clutch pedal!
Much firmer!
SPEC recommends a new 2001+ Corvette Master and Slave with the installation of the new clutch unless you already have a 2001+ Corvette and your master and slave are in excellent condition. The Z06 and non-Z06 Corvettes, MY 2001+ use the same master and slave components. All current SPEC III clutches ship with an enclosed document explaining this recommendation. Glad to hear you got the problem solved!
BTW, we are still running a special on the SPEC III and SPEC II/III with either flywheel.

Keith, do you know the cutoff for a 2001+ master and slave. I have an '01 Coupe VIN number past 18000. I'm getting some "pedal stays down" action on high rpm downshifts.
Mike, what's a shift fork? Why would this help? I have same clutch/fly and upgraded to a new master/slave, but still get chatter and scheeching. :banghead:
The clutch will never slip but the clatter will return as it starts to wear, when I took mine out recently it was shot but served well while it was there, the Exedy dual (drove it today for the first time) needs no breakin and talk about clamping power I am very pleased with it, smooth shifts no clatter and damn sure no slip--
The stock shift fork in a 99 FRC is made out of aluminum. I bent it and trashed my tranny. The 03 and up Z06's have a revised STEEL shift fork. Its stronger so you can slam gears!

Nothing against what you said Bill but don't you think it is a little early if you just drove it (today for the first time) to be stating that it has no chatter and smooth shifts? I am sure it will not slip b/c of the dual design but to say it will never chatter is something else if you just installed it. I would be knocking on wood...
