Default Which wheels are better?

Ok, I like the look of the C5 thinspoke wheels and i'm having some more cracked wheel problems so I'm thinking i'm gonna get some thinspokes.

Seems like I can get new aftermarket chrome thinspokes for roughly the same price as some OEM high polish ones in good shape.

Am I giving up quality by going with the aftermarket wheels from a company such as OE concepts or something simillar? Any other issues that I should be aware of? I like the idea of chrome better than polished wheels, but I don't want to buy some junk either.

Any comments appreciated and thanks in advance.

My 2000 with ZO6 chromies from Ecklers. Most all aftermarket thins and ZO6 styles are pressure cast in California regardless of the dealer that you purchase from. They are O.K. look good, inexpensive and as strong as stock OEM wheels, but may be harder to balance than OEM. Use a dealer with Road Force such as Hunter 9700 this indexes tire to wheel.
Mine are not as good as Speedline OEM cast ZO6 wheel or higher priced Forged wheels. If you race get Forged, everyday driver cast is ok. Some Wheels made in Europe are Spun Cast which is as good as Forged. Higher priced wheels generally offer denser molocules so wheels can have less material and be as strong with less unsprung weight.

I would go OEM. Usually they weigh less and have fewer flaws from my past experiences.

OEM is probably better unless you go to a big buck wheel like a Fiske and the like. Why are your wheels cracking?

I'm guessing it was probably pothole damage. Both of the cracked wheels are on the same side of the car. They're just OEM wagon wheels.

I really want chrome, but if the aftermarket wheels are ok then that's probably what I'll end up with. I'm not racing or anything.

:iagree: I replaced my original wagon wheels with Y2K chrome repros and then later replaced the repros with GM OEM Y2K polished thin spokes. They aren't as shiny as chrome, but they are lighter and balance better.

That's exactly why I went with OEM polished wheels. Also, if you ever need to replace one, you won't have to worry about them matching,....the caps too.
West Coast Corvettes, a Forum vendor, carries chrome OEM GM thin spoke and Z06 wheels.
