Default Differences in Y2K high polish wheels.

I have seen different posts claiming different things about the various years of the Y2K high polish wheels.

Have there been different versions, and different manufacturers of what most would assume is the same wheel?

I have heard that the 2000 OEM high polish wheel was a forged wheel with a thinner spoke than some from other years.

What is the official story?

2000 (Y2K) and up to 2004 factory polished wheels are forged wheels with the same spoke thinness any of these years.

2000 year only, factory painted wheels are also forged and alse thin spoke, same as above.

2001 and up factory painted wheels are cast and have a slightly thicker spoke than the above, the spoke "flares" out where it meets the outer rim.

Slight correction.

2000 (Y2K) and up to 2004 factory polished wheels are forged wheels with the same spoke thinness any of these years.

Early2000 year only, factory painted wheels are also forged and alse thin spoke, same as above.

Mid-year 2000 and up factory painted wheels are cast and have a slightly thicker spoke than the above, the spoke "flares" out where it meets the outer rim.
Bold is my edit. I think the 2000 painted was changed a little after 1-1-00. Speedline(?) made the cast wheels. The forged wheels have "GM" stamped on the backside.

Don, you are right in all counts I believe. The only thing I could add is that all the HIGH polished wheels were forged Alcoa wheels, and all the C5 Z06 were LPPM (Low Pressure Permanent Mold) Cast and Flow Formed (warm rolled against multiple mandrels for size and properties, and then fully machined and painted). If you compare the earlier High-Polished wheels against the later, polished Z06 wheels on the LeMans commemmorative, you will see the difference. Starting with C6 prouction, all wheels at BG Assy for both C6 and XLR are Low Pressure Cast and Flow Formed and either polished or painted.

Hope that helps some.....
