Ron,

Thanks for the note.

My '02 Z06 has 6,983 miles on it. This spring when it comes out of hibernation I am going to install the following engine modifications:

1) Crane 1.8:1 aluminum rocker arms, springs, titanium retainers, etc.

2) LG Motorsports Long Tube Pro headers, with metal matrix catalyst. The entire system will be ceramic-coated by Swain Tech

3) VaraRam throttle body

When I considered making these modifications I wanted to ensure that I had the BEST plug wires and the best plug for my application. I did a lot of technical research on plug wires, and the Thundervolt-50 wires have a very low resistance and outstanding materials. The iridium plugs are the next step in improvement over platinum. If I were going to race, which means changing plugs regularly, I would probably use Champion Copper plugs.

Good luck with your decision.

Just a thought on the plug wires. The stock ones a fairly tough and I have checked mine several times. All are under 500 ohms resistance and the GM reccomendation is they are good to go as long as they are under 700 ohms. I'm not sure that a lower resistance wire would make any difference as the plugs, I believe, have a resistance of 5000 ohms which the plug wires are in series with.

Rich,

Thanks for the note.

Talk to the people at Taylor-Vertech. They have dynamometer data that shows the benefits from idle upward of their Thundrevolt-50 wires. They advertise 50 ohms +/- 20% as their resistance numbers.

Good luck with your decision.

I guess we are going to have to agree to disagree on this.

5400 ohms (or less) to 5050 ohms just isn't going to make a difference on coil over ignitions like the C5. I would be really interseted in their test methodology and what ignition they used for their testing. My bets are it isn't anything as advanced as the C5. Also wonder what length cable they are using to quote 50 ohms resistance. Also what cable they used for the "before" test.

As far as gapping the plugs, they may all be with in GM specs but they may not be the same for each plug you install. I gap them so that each cylinder is the same for consistent/uniform performance. Regardless of the tool used, the gap should be identical for all. That said, always buy quality tools. You'll never regret it.

NGK have always been the best IMO. Never had luck with delco or bosche.
