I bought LS1 Edit mainly because I'm interested in it and fiddling around with my car's engine management computer. I think I paid about $500 for it. You can get more information about it at http://carputing.tripod.com/LS1main.htm. LS1 Edit allows you to change many of the engine management tables in the car's engine control computer. These tables affect things like timing, fuel injection, and stuff like idle speed.

In addition to LS1 Edit, you'll also need some data logging software that can monitor the computer and record what its doing while running. I use a software package called EFI Live. I think it was around $300.

You then need to devote a pretty fair amount of time to learn what everything does. Its not well documented, but there are forums and mailing lists that people use to pass information.

In my opinion, if you only need to have your car tuned once, its much cheaper to have it done for you. You should only get this software if you are willing to learn it. I've heard of lots of people doing stuff to their car with this software that I think is dangerous to the car. Car computers are very complex these days and its not easy to understand how to change things to make it work better.

For minor modifications like you have, I don't think its necessary to tune the car. You may be able to squeeze a little bit of extra horsepower out of it, but you'll spend a lot of time and money doing it. LS1 Edit becomes a requirement when you start doing more serious modifications to the car, such as heads and cam packages, turbos, or compressors.

Hope this helps.

I think it is worth it. I don't know about what mods you have now. W/ heads/cam I gained 25 rwhp and 30 rwt. It made the car run cooler also. If you are interested in having it done then talk to some vendors for their opinions. Kaley

It's only worth it if you know exactly what you are doing when it comes to tuning. Otherwise you may end up damaging your engine.

Hire someone to do it for you, or find a shop that does it on a regular basis. The best results are obtained when you have the car on the dyno and can run it time and time again to see the results (or lack of in some cases). I wouldn't try to do it myself.

I had few mods when I did my car - JCL baffle exhaust, Tric filter, plugs, wires, etc., but no heads, cam or anything else. I gained over 15 hp and big amounts of torque - check my numbers below. My baseline was 293 hp and 305 lbs./ft. torque on the same dyno I had the Edit done on.

Just have a local tuner that works on vettes do your LS1 edit. If you have any future mods that you plan on doing that would increase air flow and things such as that, hold off on the edit. The LS1 edit will be one of the last things you will do to give you that extra jump in HP.
