Re: 2001 Oil Consumption Problem Question... (Rodzilla)
I have read that the problem is more closly related to MN6, becuase it has something to do with high RPM & low load combination. Although I believe there are some automatics with the problem also.
In 2002 they resolved the issue with better oil rings. This fixed occured during 2002 production, so there are few 2002 vettes with the same problem with earlier production dates.
Re: 2001 Oil Consumption Problem Question... (BroncoGrad)
I suggest you be patient *hehe easier said than done* and wait for the 'perfect' one to arrive. I found a 2001 Black Auto Coupe w/ 16k miles for 27,500 from a dealership. It still had 2 weeks of factory warranty..then an additional 3 months of certiified GM used car warranty(+I bought the GM extended for 1200 bucks). You've basically got to have the cash on hand and be ready to drop like a falcon on a half crippled field mouse. I spotted mine in autotrader listed at 21000 heh. I called them up@8 AM the next morning and they confirmed that it was a typo...they claimed it was for sale for 27,500. I looked it up in their inventory(online) and it was listed at 32,999. So I rather ingeniusly asked if I could place and 500 dollar deposit on the vehicle and have a price quote faxed to me. I of course showed up 500 miles away at 8 AM the following morning with my buddy(who happens to be a laywer) with my price quote in hand and the addition 27000 in cash heh. I said I want my damn car. I didn't even give them time to clean it. I drove out with it dirty and there jaws still hung open:P I looked at the finance guys computer while we was out of the room and apparently they paid 29000 for the car as a trade in *jeez I just don't I feel so sorry for them*. Though 2 weeks later I find out this guy I know found a 2002 triple black vert with 4500 miles on it for 25k. Some obscenely rich old guy bought it and had it in his 'collection' and just wanted to get rid of it:( I almost cried lol.
Re: 2001 Oil Consumption Problem Question... (BroncoGrad)
Dude, get the vin # and find out when this car was built. The oil problem with 01's was generally found to be in early production cars, say the first 8-10 thousand cars were suspect. I have one myself, it used 8 quarts of oil in 8k miles then it began to taper off. I've used maybe a quart of oil in the last 5-6 k miles. I can live with that. You may find that the car your looking at was built later in the year and has no problems. Also find out who previously owned the car and call them to find out about oil consumption.
Just my 2 cents.
