I have just changed the stock wheels to Z06 size chrome and Michelin Pilot Sports on my 99 vert. 265/40/17 and 295/35/18.
My question is, will these changes affect the active handling in any way.
Thanks for all replies. Dale
I've asked a similar ? when I changed over to 2000 wheels and non-runflats.
What I noticed was that the AH kicks in a little bit delayed with the non runflats. Probably because the sidewall has more flex than a run-crap.
However, logic would conclude that "yawing" starts earlier with softer sidewall and would therefore activate the AH sooner..
Is there a way to recalibrate the AH???
No expert here but wondering. Are you running in Comp Mode? The gyro in the AH system is just that, a gyro, it measures rotation about the center line from the top center of the car, down through the floor board to the ground. If it notes that rotation is starting to overcome forward motion, more forgiving in Comp Mode, then it would notify the system. The braking system has to then decide what to do with the info, like the difference between understeer and oversteer conditions. I don't think the tire grip is going to make any difference to the gyro except in when it allows the condition to exhibit. Without telemetry it would be hard to tell if the system is more sensitive.
I've noticed the delay in the default "Normal" mode set to "Tour". I havent tried any optional settings. I believe that I now have a new mission.
Normal - Tour
Normal - Sport
Normal - Perf
Comp - Tour
Comp - Sport
Comp - Perf
You have a good point about the telemetry. It would be nice to "Zero" out the
registers before each test.
Otherwise I'm gonna have to physically measure the skid radius for each test.
Oh darn. I have to do a test of lateral G's, Yaw and tire cohesion just so I'll know where the "breaking" point is in each setting.
Damn it;s cool owning a 'Vette!
