Guys with a rollbar - inside
Wanted to see what brand you guys have (or, perhaps a custom made one), and if you're happy with it. Problems or gripes?
My biggest gripe with the hardbar is the cumbersome seat-belt mounting - they don't operate all that smoothly anymore. Thought I'd take care of that, and get some rollover protection while I was at it.
I've had Autopower rollbars in the past and though they were nice - anybody have one on their C5?
Cheers,
-Jake
Good luck with whatever you do. I would like to have a roll cage at some point as well. :yesnod:
So, I'm thinking about a rollbar, which would let me remount the seatbelts in the stock holes, and sell the Hardbar to recoup some cash (which has been great for my harness mounting)

I put a 2 inch Kirk Racing bar in my 97 and have it in my Z06 now. The bar is going to cost you $350+ and installation will take somebody about 10 hours to get right (after you take out the carpet and plastic panels). The installer has to be careful about welding around the front mounts since they are welded to the cross member right behind the seats and the cross car fuel line is right under the top of the member. The rear mounting plates are welded to the top of the frame through holes that are cut in the luggage compartment floor. They will stick out into the center storage compartment about a half inch but the cover will go right over them with a little modification to the cover. I bought a used carpet for the 97 and cut it up to fit around the bar. This allowed me to restore the car to stock when I sold it last year. The only thing left in it was the rollbar mounts that the bar bolted to. One thing I noticed in the 97 was that the bar blocked the rear view mirror a little but I thought I would solve that in the Z06 by having the front of the bar raised by a half inch. Wrong!!! On the newer cars with the autodimming mirror they use a different mirror mount that isn't as long as the 97.
Kirk will give you a choice of materials and sizes. I recommend going with the smallest diameter and strongest material allowable by the various racing bodies. My 2 inch bar will pass any inspection but it is very heavy.
