Re: NEW PRODUCT: DTE High Performance Differential Strut.... (Mean Green)
Mean Green,
The two dissimilar metals need only to be in the presence of water.
The classic example of galvanic corrosion are some of the aluminum wheels on older cars that use non-coated clip-on wheel weights. When the clear coat breaks down on the wheels, usually from the wheel weight clip cutting through it during it being hammered on, the aluminum corrodes severely.
If the painted surface on the Differential Strut breaks down at the pont of interface with the aluminum transmission or differential case, galvanic corrosion will take place.
That's why the paint process and the coating on the fasteners is very important in these type of applications.
Re: NEW PRODUCT: DTE High Performance Differential Strut.... (Pumba)
Phil,
I am concerned with the possibility of Galvanic Corrosion. Would you please explain in some detail what steps and material you are going to use in your paint process to prevent galvanic corrosion.
Re: NEW PRODUCT: DTE High Performance Differential Strut.... (Flyin'Brian)
Hey Phil, just got back. Any updates on the car? I was going to try and arrange my schedule so I could pick it up in the next couple of weeks. If it won't be finished, no problem. The pics are great. Looks like it coming along nicely. Thanks
Re: NEW PRODUCT: DTE High Performance Differential Strut.... (Flyin'Brian)
Apologies for the delay. We have been absolutely swamped so far this year and there just seems to not be enough hours in the day to get everything complete.
We have already completely sold out of the first 25 sets of differential strut kits and they are completed and ready to ship with the exception of instruction completion. We've found that assembling intuitive, easy to follow instructions the end user can understand easily has proven to be a real challenge and until we're satisfied with them, the kit is not complete to our standards. Complete instructions make it easy for the customer to install the product and in turn, easy for us to provide support.
For those of you that NEED them now and are willing to install this kit w/ out instructions, we can ship them out for you now. Call the office to let us know if that is what you wish to do. :)
Re: NEW PRODUCT: DTE High Performance Differential Strut.... (DynoTech Engineering)
I am going to need to get one of these units along with a new diff... I just broke my diff and possibly my trans output shaft as well. I was going to wait to get one of these before testing at the track, but I thought it would be ok.. my mistake.. here is the thread on what happened. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=770614
VR
I called DTE yesterday to inquire about the stage 4 diff setup. I am still waiting to hear back from them..

Right on!! Instructions?!?! We don neeeeeed no stinking instructions!!
Re: NEW PRODUCT: DTE High Performance Differential Strut.... (DynoTech Engineering)
Also, I know you can install this without removing the driveline.....but does it use existing bolts from the tranny and diff? Meaning, do you have to remove any bolts that are already torqued down to install this? Or doesn't it require any of the factory bolts? Thanks
Re: NEW PRODUCT: DTE High Performance Differential Strut.... (Buckmaster)
Buckmaster-
Not necessarily... This product can be installed on anyone's Corvette that is producing healthy power and it's use becomes inexpensive insurance against breakage of the drive train for all applications. Anyone who has broken drive train components in the past can validate just how expensive it is to repair/replace those damaged transmissions and differentials. :cry
Drive train rigidity is also a positive by-product of the differential strut and as anyone knows, the Corvette can certainly use as much as it can get, especially with the power that we are getting from these engines today.
