Im thinking about buying a used Halltech TRIC. The filter looks VERY low, and need to know what anyone knows about this during heavy heavy rains as we get sometimes in the DFW area.
I've had my TRIC for almost 3-years now with no problems whatsoever.
I've driven in plenty of heavy rain(Florida storms), and was concerned,
came thru fine. The trick(pun intended) is to not drive thru deep standing
water. I got caught in a downtown area of Tampa where roads flood
quite easily and literally must have done maybe 4-5 u-turns to make it
out to higher ground.
btw...it's exactly 5-inches from ground to plastic.
Regardless of which intake system you purchase, avoiding deep standing water is the order of the day. This applies to the stock system as well. If you can live with this, then get your Halltech and enjoy it. I had mine for 3 years and thought it was a good system. I later went with the Vararam as I couldn't avoid a GP...this is an equally good performing system. Good luck with your choices

 I'd be more afraid of ripping it off entering a driveway, I didn't know the filter sat quite that low.
I believe the hydrolocking issue is why Halltech quit making them. As long as your fully aware of this and can say for sure you'll never have to drive through a puddle or in heavy rain, go for it, they do make for good power gains.
That could be but in reality, if drive through huge streams or puddles, they all can hydrolock and that includes the stock box. It's too bad that Halltech discontinued the Tric.

there is a big difference driving through a 6 inch puddle, and a 15 inch puddle... you can drop one wheel in a six inch pot hole and suck up enough watter to hydro lock.. specially if you hit the gas to drive out of the water filled pot hole.. you never know how deep a water filled hole is..
There was six or seven guy in one summer that posted hydrolock from a tric..and im sure thats why they stopped making them...
I changed out the aluminum down tube and old filter from my TRIC system to Hall's "hybrid" TRAP downtube and "warhead" filter, which places the filter at the same height as the front license plate area. Haven't felt any seat of the pants difference one way or the other, and the new location probably provides some better protection against hydrolock.
I agree with all the above comments. As the driver/owner YOU must
be willing to accept the extra awareness when it comes to water.
If you are willing to accept what all the TRIC entails and are comfortable
with your decision, then go for it. I 'personally' love the look, craftmanship,
and the overall product that Jim made. I still get quite a few people at
shows that are under my car looking at the filter.
I also skydive, and I understand the risks...get it.

It would be really nice if people would own to mistakes they make and quit trying to blame others for idiotic things that they do including driving thru standing water with ANY brand of a bottom feeder intake. Comes with the territory, if you want to run with the big dogs you have to learn to **** on the big trees... The posts that you were referring to were guys that had a problem identifying the problem, which in those cases was the nut behind the wheel.
As many have said, and I will attest, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Tric, provided you have the common sense to avoid standing water.

Maybe you should ask Jim hall himself, as some have done in this post... his reply to an email yesterday was "DO NOT USE THIS ON THE STREET" wise advice... considering the legalities he has been through.. over this... and Big dogs are only good for one thing , pissing on big trees... smart people flush the toilet...
