Steering Wheel Noise
I have an annoying grating sound when I turn the steering wheel on my 98 coupe with 70K. It does not seem to be around the top where I can reach with lube.. Anyone have this problem? It appears that I will have to pull the steering wheel to get to it, but I hate to do so. If anyone has an idea, I would welcome it.

I jacked mine up (on jackstands), removed the L/F wheel, removed the small "close-out" panel at the rear of the wheelwell and used some Lubriplate spray where the column comes through the firewall. If you can have someone slightly move the steering wheel from left to right, sometimes you can duplicate the sound, only now you're looking right at where the sound is coming from. My noise was coming from the rubber grommet surrounding the column. Been completely quiet ever since (for about two years now). HTH

... My noise was coming from the rubber grommet surrounding the column...
