2000 C5 6 speed - Driving home this evening on the highway with no particular traffic doing about 65 the engine while in gear just shut down with no warning what so ever. The display showed a reduced power warning, then a low fuel, and lastly the infamous check engine. Pulled off the road and the car would crank but absoluetely would not start. Sort of like no fuel or no spark. However, the tank (I am certain) was about 2/3 full. Only had 100 miles on the last fill up that was 5 days ago. The tank wasn't ruptured (no gas smell). All the fuses appeard good as was the battery. Lights worked everything worked included radio and cranking but no start. Also with key removed from ignition the steering wheel lock was not locking. Let it sit 10 minutes and still crank but no start. Finally had to call for a tow to a trusted Corvette shop in Gaithersburg. Does anyone have a clue? It is my daily driver and this is the first sign of any trouble. Now I have to drive a mini van to work. OH no. :nonod:  :nonod:  :nonod:
What happened???????????
Tony said that after he took it off the flat bed it started up just fine. Oh boy an intermittant problem. Tony will find it.
Tony found it. He said it was just plain luck but I strongly disagree because he knew how to make it work. It was a bad main ground to the computer the shut down the entire communications network. I had used it to ground my hayden fan control unit and apparantely I didn't torque it correctly. User error again.
Tony comes through again. Way to go Tony. We all in Maryland know who he is in Gaithersburg by the Air Park!

Re: Simply Shut Down While Doing 65 - 70 (Corvette00Car)
After it shut down it may have been possible to clear the code to get the car to start. Sounds like it may be an injector problem??I'm no mechanic and I could be wrong. Just a suggestion though. Good luck
Re: Simply Shut Down While Doing 65 - 70 (Corvette00Car)
Thanks for the thought. No code showed up and when I tried resetting it didn't reset. Also could not enter diagnostics or select any of the video displays. Fried computer perhaps???? Thank goodness I got the extended warranty.
Re: Simply Shut Down While Doing 65 - 70 (Corvette00Car)
please let us know what the problem may have been .Thats weird it didnt give you a code then you could have @ least went by a code # I agree could be a fuel filter clogged to .I hear theres some bad Gas floating around the US that came from my gm dealer I would pull the fuel filter thats the 1st thing i would do but since you have an extended warranty thank God you have an extended warranty let the dealer figure it out
Re: Simply Shut Down While Doing 65 - 70 (Corvette00Car)

Re: Simply Shut Down While Doing 65 - 70 (Corvette00Car)
hmmm...I am thinking either fuel pump (like everybody else) of maybe the battery leaked all over your computer!!! would check the battery for possible leak..is it the original one?
Re: Simply Shut Down While Doing 65 - 70 (Tlkschep)
I've read about this drain line getting stopped up. I tried looking but couldn't find it. Where exactly should I be looking. I'd like to make sure I'm not going to have this problem.
