There should be a little tag in your glove box or rear storage compartment that has the lock number. If you provide this number to your GM dealer they can order a replacement locking lug-nut key.

I just went through this with my car a few weeks ago. Most dealers do not stock the key socket. In fact very few even have a technician with a key set to determine which key you need. In the glove box there should be a white card from Amcor Wheel Locks, that tells you the lock number and gives you an address to write to for a replacement lock.

If you need the get the lock quickly, you can order from there website http://www.amcorlocks.com/. You can order them for $15 a socket and they have an over night shipping option.

I had lost my key socket inbetween changing my front brake pads and my rears. With a track event coming up in four days I was able to order it on their website on wednesday night and it showed up in LA friday morning. They also have a phone number, but I only got a recording calling that.

The website also lists dealers that stock the sockets and/or have a master key set to determine which lock nuts you have. However, I called several dealers they listed and they all seemed rather clueless, saying it would either have to be order or they didn't know if their technicians actually had a master set or not.

Also, I asked about having the locks removed and everyone I talked to said they'd have to be cut off and that there was a chance the wheel could get scratched up in the process. I always thought you could hammer on a slightly bigger socket to get it off.

Don't forget to order two so you have a spare :D

Well, whoever changed the wheels might have used the orignal locks, so the card could be good. But of coures you wouldn't know till after you spent $15 bucks to get the socket so that could suck.

I'd check http://www.amcorlocks.com/authorized_dealers.htm and see if you can find a nearby dealer with a master set.

Take an impact socket thats slightly to small pound it on with a hammer make sure the lugs around it are tight also. or carefully take a large screwdriver and tap it in a counterclock wise direction or find some high quality vice grip pliars, needle nose type, clamp them on exremelly tight and turn while some one taps with a screw driver in a counterclockwise direction these things are really not hard to take off just enough to ward off would be thieves

I pulled the same stunt, and my dealer was able to help. He had a collection of 20-25 sockets, and the last one he tried did the trick. Once the wheels were off, I bought an aftermarket lock set.

Took mine to a tire dealer, had them off in no time flat with no damages. They told me that the only person they stopped from getting the wheels off was the owner!

I went through this last fall with my 1999, which has 2001 rims. The 2000 up wheels use different locks and lug nuts than the 1999 and I had replaced the original ones. In my case McGard made the locks, which I bought from Fichtner Chevrolet along with the lug nuts and had a GM part number. I had not noticed the card in the package and inadvertently threw it away. I have never lost a wheel lock in my life so I did not think of it as a problem until it happened.

As the wheels are torqued to 100 ft/lbs. there is no way I could get vise grips let alone a screwdriver to budge the wheel locks. I also discovered that I could not use any socket be it US, metric or British Wentworth that could be pounded on and not slip or not go on at all. I went to a couple of shops that said they had a special socket that would get them off, no problem. It was an insurmountable problem and was told they would have to be cut off. Went to the dealer and he had a set of different lock keys but none would fit as the set was incomplete. He did call McGard and after giving them his dealer number they gave him a phone number for me to call and who to talk to. When I called they told me to take a digital picture of it and email it to them and they would match it up and send me a replacement. They did and I got my replacement key.

I do not know if you have McGard as I did or Amcor as others have suggested but I think your best bet is to go to a dealer, preferably one that sells and services a lot of Corvettes and hope they have the right key or can hook you up with the company

:iagree: Otherwise, a socket and hammer may be your other option. :smash:

When I bought my car used there was no key and no card with the number. I just took it to the dealer and had them remove the locks and replace with a regular lug nut. Total cos was about $20

I found my sticker on the underside of the center console door. As a last resort you can weld a regular nut to it and back them both off. Good luck!

A heavy hammer, usually a 22mm or 23mm socket, breaker bar always works.

Go to an auto parts store , they make a socket that grabs the lock and screws on it with left hand threads, they come in two sizes
