Default SS3600 drivability?

Any one use the SS3600 here, how is the drivability of this converter? Is it tighter than the sy3500? How is the part throttle response with this converter?

Thanks,

I had the ST3500 which is nearly identical to the SS3600(older version of the SS3600) with 3.73 gears. The converter is VERY streetable and is definately tighter than the SY3500. Part throttle response was very good with my 3.73 gears. You did not mention what gears you are running? This or any high stall converter will feel tighter with higher numerical gears or looser with a numerically lower gear ratio.

I am running 3.42's. I had the SY3500 it was a little too loose for me. I like the performance, so I am looking at the ST3500(no longer made?) and the SS3600. I am looking for stock feeling part throttle response, with the higher STR's and stall. Does the SS fit my requirements?

Thanks,

AZC5

Had ther SS3600 & 3.42's , tiht as can be,,,,REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I have an SS4000 and for a 4000 it is tight.

The SS3600 is as tight feeling ALMOST as a PT 2400 stall and way tighter than the SY3500, get it and don't look back. If I were you I would get an SS3800 :yesnod:

SS3600 works well with my 3.42s. This is a daily driver cross-town/back road/stoplight/stopsign/hills and it is very acceptable. Undetectable - no, but very liveable. I have relatively quiet exhaust which does matter. I had Y3200 previously and the SS3600 is just about as tight. Of course, it hits MUCH harder is is great on the highway roll. You'll like it.

I have SS3600 with 3.73 gears in my A4 with only a blackwing as a mild HP enhancer. I went from stock to this setup, so I don't have a comparison point with other TC/gear combos. It's definately looser than stock, but very driveable. You do need to press the throttle more to get moving from a stop as compared to stock. If you are accelarating normally, your RPMs will be around 2000 when you are around 25mph. It's not enough to bother me and you get used to it fairly quickly. But boy, when you step on it or get on the go pedal from a highway roll, its  :D :conehead   . BTW, I spoke with Mike at Yank as I was undecided between the SY3500 and SS3600. He told me that the SS3600 is much tighter than the SY3500 (and hits harder too.)

Will it roast a set of street tires? I don't plan on going to the strip very often, but do have the Pilot Sports/CCW "Big Roller" package. I'm at the same cross road as to the SY3500 and the SS3600. I'll have 3.42's too.

Get the SS3600 or the SS3800 they have better driveability than the SY3500.
When I had my ST3500 I could roast my street tires from a 30-35 MPH roll.

YES. SS will absolutely roast on any 1st gear downshift - for example at 30 mph (at least on my ride). I don't think SY will do this with low STR.

Thanks! If I already had the SY3500 sitting here, ready to be put in, would it be worth changing up to the SS3600? Is there that big of a difference? I don't want to drive around doing smoke shows.

Can't really anser this. Myself - I would be pretty sensitive to a loose converter (see previous post re: daily driving conditions) I think I would be unhappy with SY3500. Many people really like the SY though. At one time, it was THE hot setup for street driven w/3.42 A4 cars. It is known to be looser, and gentler, then SS. Good Luck!!

It depends on your palns for your car. If you plan to go to the track with DRs then getting the SS3600 is very good idea. If you don't plan on running DRs at all then the SY3500 might be a better choice. The SS will give you better driveability but it will be harder to hook with it on the street without DRs.

It's not the converter:nono:....You need a Transgo shift kit :smash: Upshift ..Downshift...Hold ANY gear as long as you wish...Im talkin' LIGHTNING QUICK shifts and NO looseness at all with ANY converter and I have had 3 already......Best bang for the buck out there ....PERIOD!!! :yesnod:

And for those who don't feel you need one they just haven't experienced the Transgo's SOTP impact on the performance of the driveline.. :smash:

BTW..I drive a 3.73/ Yank SS3800 :yesnod:

Would an FLP trans tighten up a looser converter? Which converters have you had Vince?

I have seen alot of people post that they thought the SY3500 is too loose for them. Is there anyone out there that thinks that the SS3600 is too loose?

I have a Blackwing, Volant air bridge, Corsa indy's, 3.42's and LS1 edit. I am not going to do anything else to the car. Except for a TC. I want the car to be tight, not like the SY3500 I had in there before. It was too loose, part throttle response was mushy at best. I am looking for stock feeling, with a high STR and good street stall.

I talked to Mike and he suggested the SS3400(not on his site). I guess I need to decide between the 2. Thanks for all of the responses.
