I just swapped my LS1 valve springs for LS2 valve springs since my car felt like it had some valve floating going on. Now I'm getting quite a bit of valve train chatter/clanking.
Does this indicate that my rocker arms are too loose or too tight? Anything else it could be? I retained all the stock hardware other than the springs themselves. I can hear one cylinder in particular being especially noisy.
I tightened the studs to 22ft/lbs tq as specified by jmX and the manual.
I recently posted something about setting proper lash, do a search for "lash" and you will probably find mine. There may be differences in all the valvetrain components which means you need to set the lash of the lifters manually on every rocker. It seems the more prudent way to go rather than just torquing every rocker to 22ft/lb and assuming all is equal.
Unless you have changed your valve train to adjustable lifters this is a positive stop rocker system meaning you tighten the rocker bolts to a specfic torque and you are good to go! :yesnod:
Now that being said some people have installed some type of poly locks on their system in an effort to get the last 1-200 rpms out of the LS1/6.
IMHO it's a complete wast of money and time.
Your noise should go away after driving it for a short time, it's just the lifters bled down from turning the engine over w/o oil pressure. :)
