Help with a starter problem for a 99
Need a little help with a problem I just had with my, I believe its the starter, 99 coupe. I just took it our for a drive after sitting for awhile through the winter. I went to start it and I kept getting a loud screaching/gear grinding noise. I have been starting the car on a weekly bases to keep the battery charged. The battery seems to be ok. The only way to start the car is to push start it. I cant believe I am haveing a problem when the car only has 29K miles on it. If any one could help I would appriciate it. Thanks, Jim

It sounds like the solenoid is not pushing the starting gear out all the way. One other thing it could be is you might have chipped a tooth on the flywheel. The first problem is an easy fix. The second is pretty difficult because you have to drop the whole drivetrain to remove the flywheel. Let's hope it's the solenoid.
