Default Cam Decision

I might have an opportunity for picking up a used cam from a friend and I have a few questions.

1. I shouldnt have any problems with a used cam correct?
2. I have 2 cams to pick from :222 .595 on 112 or a 226 .581 on 112
I have an MN6 and I will take the car to 21MC in Dallas for the tune. Which one should I choose and why?
3. What valvetrain stuff do I need? (springs...) and how much should I be paying for this? ( I am running the stock LS1 heads)
4. Should I be looking at some different cams that would produce more power with stock heads and which ones?
5. Am I missing anything here?

Thanks for your help!

4.) The only thing I'll mention is that relatively speaking, cams are "cheap"- and since you have to pay the same labor for install, seriously weigh the cost savings vs. the performance you can get from alternative cams. If you've researched the cam specs and are sure it will meet your expectations, then great. You might only have to spend $200 more to get a brand new cam that would make much more HP/TQ- Just something to think about.

3.)Springs, retainers, push rods- $400 (I think).

Good luck...there are some cam only cars making pretty big numbers and still passing emissions and idling. I'm researching the same thing and recommend you take a look at J-Rods recent post about Cams. There is a link to another forum that has hours worth of posts, all great information.

you will need for the install

Hardened or chromoly pushrods 100-120
Springs- 160
you don't need retainers if you buy 918 springs you can use your stock ones, however, some people feel better if they have titanium ones 120-130. If you buy double springs or manley springs the you will need to buy retainers becasue of the design.

Buy the cam for what you want. You can get a cam that puts out better numbers, but you will sacrifice drivability. Either of those cams are good.

good luck
