i've been looking at the head/cam package for the ls1 at LPE's website. has anybody had LPE do anything for them, and especially this particular package? it would be my first modification, on a totally stock c5 with 27,000 miles. i want to go faster, in less amount of time!
No experience with the LPE stuff..... What are you looking for? The most hp possible? Good driveability? Budget? etc....
i guess you could say i'm looking for practicle horsepower, driveable, that maybe i could add supercharging to later on. i definitely want driveablity, since i mainly want to tour with the car. budget is a concern, naturally.
The best info I could give you is to go with any of the respected tuners on this forum that is closest to you. Lots of things can happen, and you don't want your tuner to be a few states away when you need reprogramming again because you battery went dead and ran your pcm down, or for tuning for your lastest mod, etc. Just someone accessable.

Well, forced induction is going to be completely different than running N/A. Maybe get a nice lower boost setup from A&A for $5k, and that will have stock driveability. Basically, if you know you are going to do forced induction, don't bother doing heads/cam right now. Andy told me his setup would give you 460-470 RWHP. If I was staying N/A, I would get MTI's stage 2E heads, and their stealth 2 cam. Stock driveability, and stock sounding, and put down roughly 410 rwhp with other bolt ons. That will cost you though roughly $2100 for heads and cam, another (depending on headers) $800 to $2000, plus install of heads/cam roughly $1,000 and then dyno tuning... roughly $500. So either way about $5k... Stay away from all these cheap heads, if you are going to do it...... do it once and do it right. Stay with a manufacturer that has PROVEN results. Good luck!!!!

thanks, i saw his post, after i posted my original. sounds like a great price, and sounds like everyone knows of him. i'm new on the forum, and have owned my vette about 3 weeks. it already bugs me, that a stock z06 could beat me. i think i too, am getting the "mod fever", very contagious!
First, heads/cam packages are common as dirt, and there are LOTS of good packages available, and LOTS of C5 owners who have had great success with their results. Just don't get seduced by visions of huge dyno numbers, use some common sense, and deal with reputable vendors and tuners.
There are several cam grinds that will work just fine n/a, but will also do well w/ forced induction. You need a cam with modest lift, a wide LSA (lobe separation angle) of 114 or higher, and a split duration (exhaust stays open longer than the intake. A good choice would be a Comp Cams 216-220 114 w/ around .530" lift. You can use it with their "918" springs. This cam will work well without any tuning, pass emissions, and give you good gas mileage. If you want a bit more power, got to a 218-224 grind. It will still pass emissions, but may need a little tuning to get a good idle and low-speed response. Both cams will also work well with a blower. However, if you're planning a turbocharger, that's a different story.
For heads, you don't want to have them milled for higher compression, and you will need a good set of valves, especially the exhaust. I have had excellent luck with Absolute Speed. They make great products, have a good reputation, and are very reasonably priced. Their customer service is awesome. There are several other vendors who also do an excellent job, such as TEA, MTI, and GTP.
IMHO, LPE is rather expensive.
Hope this helps. As usual, this advice is worth what you paid for it.
I'm not sure which package your refering to, but I did H/C and some other mods, that are pretty close to the Stage One package. (I just picked the car up Saturday, so I haven't had a chance to see what it's capable of. I'm still getting used to it) I used the GMPP CNC'd heads as opposed to the LPE Stage One heads.
Mods were as follows:
GMPP CNC'd LS6 heads
LPE GT2-3 Heads
Blackwing filter
LS6 MAF
LS6 Intake manifold
LPE long tube headers, through stock 2002 Z06 CAT's
Bassani X-pipe
Z06 Ti mufflers
Install and tuning by Vette Doctors
Max power STOCK was 304hp and torque was 313
W/new setup 403hp torque 381
torque was between 30-40 ft/lbs more from 2k to 4k. After that the stock graph drops off while the new setup continues to climb until about 5.2k and then slowly drops off to about 320 ft/lbs at 6.4k.
HP starts about 20 hp higher and gradually diverges from the stock graph. After 4.5k the stock hp graph levels out while the new setup continues to climb until about 6.2k.
You'd never know this car had a cam except for slightly louder valvetrain noise, and when you put your foot in it. From what I'm reading, some guys are making that kind of power with just a cam, But I gaurantee it doesn't sound like the car is stock. I'm happy with the setup, and if I ever want more out of it, a different cam would give a good jump in performance, especially in the lower rpm range.
I haven't gotten the file of the dyno run yet, so I can't post it.
If your just looking for for the most power you can get, and don't mind the lope, you can probably get much higher numbers, for the same $$$. It's all what your looking for.
