I was away from the car scene for a little over 25 years. I returned to find this great engine - LS1/LS6. I knew a little about smallblock chevys and aluminum blocks. I figured "a motor is a motor" and 240+ should work. I think it's fantastic the number of BIG cams we're seeing!!! Gotta love it. :yesnod:
I pick my car up tomorrow with a 240+ duration cam and I will give more input then but, in the old SB carburated chevy enigines I would have said it was too much. But, with EFI and the other modern marvels of today's engines it is possible to run these cams due to the tuning options. Mine will be around 238/244 range. :D It should run great.
2 years ago we were all just starting to learn how to dial these PCMs with the then new LS1Edit. At that point no one could tame a cam on the order of 240+duration and/or LSA <112 in a stock cubed gen III. I, too, am glad to see progress shaping things to come with regards to LSx cam sizes.

NOW that's a MAN SIZE CAM on a stock cubed 346 motor!!!!  Great choice and your Z06 is going to be a 1000% different BEAST!!! :yesnod: :yesnod: :chevy :chevy

:iagree: It's all about the tuning  I've got my car so drivable with LS1 Edit, now I wish I would have went with a bigger cam. And I'm sure I will someday :yesnod:

Curious, will your cam be lsa 112 or 114? I look forward to your input after drive around with a big :D .
I'll be getting the G5X-3 w/lsa 114 & Comp 921 Dual Springs soon and I know Godspeed (aka Jeremy at LGMotorsports) will do a great streetable tune. :yesnod:

Mine is on a 114.
Just got the car back. So far I am quite pleased with the results. The only thing I might have an issue with is how loud the car is. It sounds good but, when you put your foot in it; Boy is it loud. Other than that, it is what I expected. Driveability is not much different. My idle is presently set at 1K rpm. No issues with stalls, surging or searching for an idle ppoint. Driving below 1500 rpms seems to put added strain on the engine ulike before. Before I was able to drive along just above 1K rpm all the time. Now that is not possible. Overall, I am very pleased with the results. Final #'s 426 hp and 395 lb/ft.

I disagree. I believe Kevin Hagerty ( NoGo) could tame/tune a Big cam 18 - 24 months ago.
I guess Godspeed probably could also since he was tuning World Challenge cars.

What exhaust system are you running? Are you saying it is louder now at WOT or louder all the time?
If I did not have to pass smog here in CA, I would have cooked up something of that nature when I went to a H/C back in 2001. It would have been with a lift of around 580 and not 600 as now, because the springs were not available to handle it.

Re: Cam Poll for Everyone! (billiam01)
Baby cams are better for the street; I still think 240 cams are too big for best overall street enjoyment. :(
On a stock cubed motor (346) i agree but for a stock cubed motor i think a nice moderatly aggressive cam like a 228/232, .588 lift on a 112 or 113 lsa is perfect for awesome power and maintaining streetability and reliability (of course running all valve train upgrades including the best double valve springs that $ can buy)!
