headers-40hp or myth?
do headers really produce 40 horse on a stock ls1 or is it marketing hype? i'm talkin about full length from lg, kooks, stainless, etc., the shorties are just a waste of time and $

Depends on your wallet...I have the TPIS...lots of folks say the LG's are the best ...FLP's are bolt on ( no welding) but cost more...

Lots of guys get only 10rwhp too, but I think the LG headers are the best I've seen out there.

I'd say a more reasonable expectation would be 25 hp gain and with a tune maybe 30 hp gain.

Re: headers-40hp or myth? (connecticut)
40 HP might be a bit unrealistic for headers alone on a car that started out properly tuned. Expect 20-25 HP and you won't be disappointed.

Re: headers-40hp or myth? (connecticut)
Seems like most people have dyno'd 25-35rwhp, so yea, 40 at the crank is most likely accurate

Maybe at the crank if you had an aftermarket cat-back and a good tune, but definitely not 40 rwhp with no other changes.

Re: headers-40hp or myth? (connecticut)
I dyno'd at 339 with LG, without tune. Sorry, I don't have a base line, but 35-40 is more than possible with LG long tube.

Don't expect to get those kind of gains through the stock CAT's and you will not pass emissions testing in CT without CAT's. I have LPE headers, and Ed at LPE said to expect around 15HP gain through the stock CAT's. Hi flow or none will improve those numbers.

As soon as I get a cage in my car, I'm putting the headers on and ditching the cats. I'll post results :yesnod:
