I've been following all the cam threads lately in my continued effort to find my ideal match. Depending on the day and my mood, it varies quite a bit!! My question rates to tuning after a cam only install. Is there a general rule of thumb where a certain level of duration, lift...etc actually requires a tune? Or do the LS1s automatically adjust for the new cam; making the tune just for squeezing out some HP? Thanks in advance all! :seeya
For sure all A4s will need a tune, I had to drill a small hole in the throttle body blade to get my car home or it would die. The mechanic that installed my cam did not tune cars. The M6's are able to be driven without the hole. Both A4's & M6's need to be tuned for optimun operation.

I would recommend tuning with any cam. Do you have a stick or an auto? I have a stick and went with a 230/224. I drove mine around for about a month with no tuning. It ran fine. Just wasen't making all that it could. kaley

My 98 is an MN6 as well. From the other advice I've gotten, it sounds like a tune is the best way to go. It's good to know that I may not have to get it immediately. Thanks everyone!
The greater the duration and the narrower the LSA the more involved the tune becomes. I agree with everyone here - a Tune is a good idea for all cams. FWIW.
