Still have stock exhaust and air filter? Change those first.

Forgot, add headers if you can afford them too.

I would change the filter and exhaust from headers back. Get ls1 edit. Don't waste your money on a shelf tune. Kaley

If you are on a budget, don't waste your money on a programmer or ls6 manifold. You will make the most bolt-on horsepower with an aftermarket intake, like a Blackwing, and (this is controversial, but I picked up 12 dyno proven rwhp on my '00, by removing the MAF screen -- a free mod).

That should pick up 20-25 rwhp.

Exhaust mod is OK for sound, but will not net a lot more hp.

When you say aftermarket intake, you mean the intake filter? You mention Donaldson, so I assume that is what you mean. I will agree that it definately adds HP for the price, but I only saw 12 hp gain in my '99. Not saying that is bad, but not the most bolt-on hp gain you can get.

and (this is controversial, but I picked up 12 dyno proven rwhp on my '00, by removing the MAF screen -- a free mod).
Controversial, I would have to agree. 12 from the screen removal alone?
I doubt that I got 1-2 hp gain when I removed mine. Yours must have really been plugged up.

Don't agree here. Exhaust is the most bolt-on gain you can get. Headers (20-25 RWHP), removal of or High flow Cats (5-10), and x pipe with catback exhaust (10-15) are by far best impovement.

HawIVEtte:

Too tired to quote your entire post, but I disagree with your disagreement, and I suspect so does C4C5specialist, who did all the modifications and testing on my car. No, my MAF was not "really plugged up." We don't get a lot of hayseeds or other debris in this part of the country.

All the modifications are backed up with numerous, repeated, controlled conditions, back-to-back dyno runs and road tests. Enough to accurately verify the gains and losses. Notice I also carefully posted that mine was an '00. Your '99 is different.

1320dance posted he is on a budget. Air filter is a budget mod ($189 currently on the forum). MAF screen removal is a budget mod ($free). Headers, high flow cats, X-pipe, cat back system is not a budget mod (at least $3,500 installed professionally).
