I have an 03 H/C coupe and a 1961 383 original appearing car. The 61 is a bit-- to drive as it has a 'glide and 3500 stall convertor. I just happen to have an LS1 and 4L60 from a 99 Camaro in the shop. Though I'd arrange a wedding with the 61. Question-Does anyone know of a shop that offers a kit to do this? Motor mounts, etc? Goal is to leave the 61 stock appearing but with new drivetrain. It already has a 9" ford (sorry) rear end. I am considering a new front suspension pkg but car has original (except for disc brakes) now. Any one help? ;)
This months issue of Corvette Fever has 2 good articles about LS1 transplants into early years. One a 62, and the other is about a shop that does this as a specialty.
I don't remember the guys name, but a forum member is swapping one into a C3.
The physical mounting is pretty much just a matter of making adaptor plates for the mounts, and modifying the crossmember.
Wiring is a whole different ball game as is fuel system. Rock Valley makes tanks and you can get a harness from Painless, but they only work with 98 f-body computers.
I am building a ls6 for my 99 FRC, and the LS1 that comes out will go into my 69 Camaro.
