Default Dynatech Header Install...

I purchased the LT headers, cats, and x-pipe ($1540 to the door)
Pros
*The system is complete down to gaskets, zip ties, washers, nuts and bolts.
*Built out of T-304 stainless steel.
*It is a Direct bolt on. No cutting or welding (Maybe a little cussing during the install)
*No codes or check engine light after install.
*A definite SOTP difference, the car revs to red line quicker.
(Track numbers and a Dyno to follow in the next couple of months)
*No leaks - the 2-bolt clamps and gaskets are high quality.
*At 3K (rpm) and above the car sounds awesome. You definitely know that it is not stock
(I have Borla Stingers). At idle, sounds tame. I haven't turned my radio on since the install. :D
*Instruction guide was step by step and detailed

Cons
*I had the most difficulty with the O2 sensors. It was hard to get those (O2 sensors and the wiring) away from the headers when routing them. Maybe a longer extensions
(extenders were provided) would have helped.
*Pictures in the instruction booklet would have helped.

The install was clean and took about 6-7 hours (used a lift and 2 friends). I prolly slowed
my buddies down as they know much more than I do. I drank some beer and tried to stay
out of the way. I do not have any other system to compare these with, but my buddy has
done work with other systems (89 coupe with a 383ci) and he was very impressed with the
quality and ease of install. I am very pleased and can recommend Dynatech SuperMaxx
System.

In the other thread, the installer mentioned that the front O2 sensors were hitting the body, do you have the same problem?

Yes, the front O2 Sensors do touch the underside of the car. There is no rattle or buzzing
because there no room for the sensors to move. The are pressed against the tunnel and
are not going anywhere

Is it possible for some harmonic to be transmitted through them, as they are touching, or, for some movement of the sensors to occur when the car is moving? The only reason I ask the question is because I had read, on an older thread, to be sure everything in the exhaust system is free and clear because any tapping noise would be sensed as knock by the car and retard the timing. Maybe this isn't true. Anyway, I envy you and your new headers! Hopefully, next year for me. Are you planning on a dyno? I haven't seen any figures on the Dynatechs yet.

Unfortunately, I committed to remodeling the kitchen for my wife, hoping that the cost comes in under budget just enough to pick them up this summer :D

How did you make out with the spacers on your front tabs moving the O2 sensor away from the body?

Worked out pretty good. I picked up some stainless 1/2"diam. flat washers. I removed the bellhousing bolts that hold the bracket (that came with the kit) to the tabs on the collectors. I then slipped the washers in between the bracket and the bellhousing mount. I put the bolts back in and cinched it down. It dropped it about 1/16" and got it off the top of the tunnel. I haven't had any noise problems, but neither has Rugby. I guess it's one of those things each of us has to judge.

I prolly will hit the track sooner. Trying to get the boys together for a Dyno Day to
cut costs, I will post results. I'll tell you the car revs faster and at about 25mph - 30mph
without using the clutch I mashed the pedal and broke the rearend loose! This is at 6000
feet above sea level! I could not do that before the Dynatech Install :D

Matt,

Keep an eye on the Oxygen sensor that is touching the body. The engine will rock clockwise about the centerline of the crank, and it could cause the sensor to break, or become damaged.

Good luck with your car. :seeya :nono:

No, my car is slammed - longer bolts in back and cut the bushings up front.
I am getting on the Dyno tomorrow. Will not have a before/after but we
will get an idea of what the car is making with my bolt-ons

I sent an e-mail to Dynatech this week about dyno results and this is the reply I received

Hello Jim,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I was hoping to have some recent dyno numbers from McCluskey Chevrolet on a customers Z06 but scheduling has postponed that till next week.

First lets talk about the install. I have personally installed these on a local customers 98 automatic car. The drivers side header goes in from underneath and the passenger from the top. We supply detailed step by step instructions and I have attached a set for your review. Other than the original exhaust system having to be removed we suggest loosening the starter bolts for clearance, removing the alternator, passenger coil packs and valve cover, plugs & wires. That is really about it. If you do your own mechanical work and have hand tools this is a straight forward job that takes the average guy about 6 hrs.

I would suggest picking up the latest copy of Corvette Fever May 04. The story has complete dyno charts as tested. The writer performed the install and was involved with the dyno testing. This was an absolute stock 98 coupe with about 60,000 miles and automatic. Still had the stock muffler as well. This car avg. about 20 hp & 21 ft-lb tq better from 4,300-5,900. Because of the auto trans we couldn't record readings down in the 2,000-4,000 range where you can really feel the torque gains when driving the car. MTI in Texas has reported 30 + on some models and as the engine displacement goes up and more modifications the headers become more of a factor in achieving maximum power. As soon as we get the latest dyno numbers on a stick shift car will have them available on our website.

We have never had the Kooks or LG headers in our shop, and can only tell you what we have read on the internet. They both have purchased products from us over the years. For years are only business has been building racing headers and collectors for all forms of circle track, drag racing, and off-road. Our customers have included top teams in NASCAR, NHRA, DIRT, SCRA, USAC, WoO, IMCA, Stars, about every form of U.S. auto racing. We have an ongoing business relationship with GM, Ford, and Mopar.

The same racing technology & engineering has been incorporated into the SuperMAXX C5 headers and exhaust system.
We wanted to developed more seat of the pants torque and acceleration, so just like our racing products, we developed a long tube unequal length design. This design consistently shows a broader torque curve and smoother acceleration in our racing applications and the same has been proven for the street.
This long tube design required us to develop a smaller compact metal substrate catalytic converter. This design has greater flow than the factory units but still is compatible with OBD-II (before & after cat O2 sensors).
All T-304 SS construction: flanges, tubing, clamps, gaskets, cats, x-pipe, etc.
Direct bolt-on fit. This system fits like a glove, looks like jewelry, includes all components, including: header gaskets, bolts, O2 extension cables, wire ties, and instructions.
Superior packaging & outstanding customer service.
Like all Dynatech products we strive to build the very best products at a fair price. The SuperMAXX system has proven to be one of the finest bolt-on pieces for C5 Corvettes and considered outstanding value for what it cost.

Cut a few corners on the kitchen to be sure to have the $$$ for the headers. It only makes sense, you only cook & eat in the kitchen, but you're on cloud nine in your vette! :)
