I need help making up my mind on a camshaft. Here is what I have. 97 vette A4, BBK headers, Z06 intake and injectors, granatelli MAF, low temp t-stat, ported and polished heads, ferra valves, titanium retainers, comp cams springs. When I did the heads I made sure I was ready for a Camshaft. I would like the cam to be very streetable. I was thinking the Z06 Camshaft or the comp cams 216/220 dur, 525/532 lift 114. I would like to go as radical as I can with an automatic and still drive everyday. I do not wish to change the torque converter.
IMHO, you are on the right track by keeping the cam relatively mild. The 216/220 is a proven grind that will work relatively well without any tuning. However, you will still be able to pick up some extra power with a good dyno tune.
Only reservation I might have is with your headers. If you have LT headers and have deleted the cats, you have very little back pressure at idle. You may experience a little reversion, results in a rougher idle, possible surging, and a stinky exhaust. What happens is the intake charge runs right through the combustion chamber and out the exhaust valve at low RPMs. The solution is to run a straight pattern grind, something like a 218/218, then advance it an extra two degrees. This is a great setup for an A4.
