headlamp gear

Well, I have the same problem. Where can I get a replacement gear for the headlamp door? My dealer says they don't have such a part and intend to replace the whole motor. My warranty is up, so I don't want that if I can avoid it.
Thanks, Sally in CT

Rodney's gears work great. Just be real careful when handling it (assuming your motor housings are glued like mine) that you don't get grease on the areas that will be glued when putting it back together. One of mine came apart after several weeks because the glue gave out....my guess is that it had grease on it and the epoxy didn't hold.

Sally, totally agree with the above. Rodney will provide the goods for the job without feeling like your wallet got ripped a new one. Plus, you get the added satisfaction of knowing you did the job yourself. BTW, was a thread I posted the one that didn't have the info you were looking for? http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=733078 Yeah, other than the info others thankfully added to it about Rodney, it's pretty bland.
Only things I'd add to the info Rodney provides are:
- If you don't want to potentially get any epoxy on your fingers when regluing the gear covers, wear latex gloves or something similar.
- Instructions say wait a min of 30 minutes before reinstalling gear assembly (or something like that). Err on the side of caution and go a couple of hours. (I waited 2 hrs.)
- Make sure you have some fine grit sandpaper on hand to remove any rust on the metal pieces before reinstalling them.
- Do not reuse the rubber "bumpers" inside the gear casing. Use the ones Rodney gives you.
If you want, I can e-mail some pics that will show you what I faced in fixing my gear problem.
Have fun! :seeya
