I have an outstanding opportunity to use my new C5 coupe as a test mule for some prototype Jet Hot headers. The headers and install will be free, so long as Jet Hot can use me as a reference and show pics of the install in media of their choice. Sounds almost too good to be true, no?
My only concern is staying emissions legal. Will the OEM catalytic convertors work OK with LT headers, or will I need to use O2 sims?

Tough to answer without knowing the design of the headers and the rest of the pipes. You will need some type of flange to connect with your stock mid pipe and cat back or new pipes from the vendor. Some designs eliminate one set of sensors like LGM's while others like Kooks use both sets of sensors. If you lose a set you will need sims or have them deleted with LS1 edit.
In Maryland, we no longer use the sniffer/roller test. They plug in to the OBDCII computer for the test now. So no problem there. I would try to keep the CATS (stock or high flow) as they can still do a visual inspection if they suspect tampering - and not to mention your car will smell (especially when cold) without them. Whoever is doing the install should be able to reuse your factory CATS
If you want to get rid of the O2 sims, you will have to edit those out of the cars program as the OBDCII test will see that.
Rob, yes --- Jason will be doing the install at FBC. I had already planned to install a set of CNC ported heads, but keep the stock cam. When I spoke to Jason about the install, he mentioned that he was looking for a test mule for the prototype Jet Hots. I will need to work with him on how to tie in the cats, and possibly do an X-pipe as well. His exhaust guy Tyson is really good, so I'm sure it will end up being a clean install. I plan on documenting the entire install, take a bunch of digital pics, etc., then do some dyno testing.
My previous car, a '99 SS, had MACs & no cats, so I know some of the side effects, such as a stinky exhaust. I had Jason edit out the codes w/ LS1 Edit, & had no probs passing a VA emissions test w/ a tailpipe sniffer.
However, I have heard the the future OBDII tests will be able to detect that the codes have been edited out. O2 sims might not be able to be detected so easily.
Got any specs on the headers, i.e. diameter of primaries and collector, length of primaries, how close to equal length the tubes are? I'm close to buying set of headers, but if something closer to what I'm looking for is soon to be on the market, I'd rather wait.
I don't have any details yet. My latest info is that the proto's have been fabbed, and are now being coated. Then they will be shipped to FBC, & can then be installed. I'm thinking it will be 2-3 weeks before the install date.
Do you have LTs?? How much louder was the exhaust?
I have LT's, but I have not had a chance to install them yet (hoping fo rthis week/weekend). They probably will not really effect the sound all that much except maybe at WOT.
I got a reply on another forum, said they sounded louder inside the car due to the thinner wall tubing, but not too much louder outside. I might have to use some header wrap.
