Im thinking about getting one of these and learning to tune my own car. id obviously buy a wideband of some sort and rent some dyno time. Right now my car is stock, but I think it'd be fun to take it to the track stock and modify things to see how it affects ET and MPH.
thanks

Nope, it would be great if it did..

Use Autotap, Ease, or Efilive :seeya

so you have to buy additional hardware? How much are those other programs? So basically you need to watch the laptop while driving to tune the damn thing?

A few hundred bucks. You don't have to actually watch the PC. But it's fun to watch.. You can turn on logging and veiw the playback in the comfort of your living room....

right, i meant w/o datalogging you'd have to watch. Will that autotap work in conjunction w/ the ls1 edit? or do i need to uplug one to do the other?

is efilive as good or better then ls1 edit? I can get this efi live w/ autotap for under 500. ls1 edit is $550. (then i have to buy auto tap)

Autotap has a proprietary cable that works only with Autotap, I believe.

it seems that ls1 edit isnt really for tuning for max performance. Plus on top of that, you loose all settings you change when you unplug it. Anyone have input here? What is the best way to TUNE the car but log data?

It's currently the best and most comprehensive I know of.
It's a means to reprogram your car, it is not a data logger. You need a data logger to see how your car is performing, and what changes you need to make. You don't tune a car on the fly, and I can see no use whatsoever for using LS1-Edit while driving.
You log data on the fly, study that data, make a (hopefully) informed decision of what changes need to be made in the PCM program, makes the changes, and upload the revised program to the PCM. All this takes place with everything off. Then you unplug it and go drive.

Plus on top of that, you loose all settings you change when you unplug it.
Once you make your changes, you upload to the PCM and your new program is in place. I don't quite get what you mean you lose everything by unplugging it? Do you think all the cars here tuned via LS1-Edit drive around with laptops and cables plugged in all the time? They don't.

Noooo. LS1 Edit ROCKS!!! All Changes are permanant. LS1edit is the defacto standard to tuning. The cable is merely an interface to the cars PCM (Computer)

You use the logging tools to monitor the results before and after the tune. All Loggers require an adapter (included) to interface to the computer.

Hope this helps..

crap i just lost everying i typed because of this stupid 100 character topic.

Anyway, i meant to say autotap/efi live is not for tuning not ls1edit. Does LS1 edit offer a realtime graphical interface even if its not logged? I might want to put it on a dyno and tune while im rolling just to resolve driveability issues and fuel and timing curves etc. I just dont want to tune, unplug, plug in the data logger, come back, unplugged and keep repeating this.
I downloaded and ran the EFI live w/ their supplied logs they had and i really liked it. Showed total timing, injector DC, if knock retard was activated and if so how much it was retarding, speed, rpms, etc etc. That'd be nice to have while tuning rather then plug in, unplug, tune
