The burn out box is not as dry and sticky as when you stage...your launch is obviously good... with your 60'.... I think what you are feeling is something we use to call sensation... I believe its the difference in traction in the box, as oppose to the stage...
Why would my car be "alive" , quick , etc, when doing the wheel clean & burnout prior to raceing, but then at the line while power braking say 1500-1700 rpms, it sounds weak, and is always SLOW to respond at launching?
Car is LS-1 Edit dynoed tuned, TC/AH off, abuse mode disabled.
Car actually runs supreme, but is always sluggish off the line.
Like I said, at idle to WOT, car ROARS & spins tires during quick clean off & ROASTS them doing burnout. But once I'm at the line, its a dog to move.
Any thoughts??????
I'm about at my wits end over this, and am practically ready to offer a financial REWARD to ANYONE who can figure this out!!!
Are you launchinf in first gear and also is the Torque Converter out of lock-up? If it's set to lock at a certain speed or RPM in whatever gear that could cause it to bog.
One more thing. Thats a high stall speed for your car. That stall is meant for Heads & cam cars and could also be used on a 383 stroker
what gear are you launching in? it should be 3rd, You could also have a worn clutch band in the tranny, good for a good burn out and then gets warmed up and stretches a little. Also could be converter slipping, but I doubt it. "Is it still sluggish off the line on the street or just the track? Is this consistant in all conditions. What gears?
The worn clutch band is a thought.. I will investigate further...
3:42 gears. I really don't do too much driving on the street except to & from the track, but the thought of the clutch band being good for a burnout & then stretching, I'm not overly technical about trannys, so I wonder if this is a realistic probability??
It is possible for bands to overheat and lose some of their grip, especially under the rigors of drag racing. They don't really stretch per se, but rather the friction material on the band gets hot and loses its ability to grip. At the extreme of band wear the band actually gets burnt. Overheating/burning a band would result in a slipping condition in the trans, which you would see as RPM's increasing with no resulting increase in MPH.
That being said, I doubt your problem is a band problem. The 1-2 band in your 4L60E trans comes on (grabs the clutch drum) in second gear and fourth gear, not first and 3rd. The only components engaged in first gear are the low/reverse clutch pack and the 1-2 sprag (one-way clutch). Here again, if these components had a problem, there'd be more of a slip condition, not the "bog down"/loss of power that you're describing.
To me the problem you're experiencing sounds more like an engine performance/fuel delivery issue.
