O.K if you look and ask around for the correct spark plug gap you will find that .060 is the most common answer. I just purchased a set of Denso plugs IT16 which they say on their web sight the gap for a 2004 C5 is .060, they also say not to regap the plugs due to damage, with that said, the out of the box gap is .044 far from .060. I removed all of my stock plugs and found that the gap on all 8 is .039    Need the forum help please. Denso makes the IT16 plug for many cars also gaps from .050 to .060 same plugs differrent gaps? :boxing should I go with the .060 gap?
Re: C5 factory spark plug gap problem (davidfarmer)
I gap mine all to .055. If your plugs are advertised as being .060, and arent, I would return them and demand they send me 8 that are correct.
Err.. Not necessarily.. A specific spark plug gap has as much to do with the combustion chamber / ignition coil / timing design as it does to the engineering technology of the plug. If the manufacturer says don't re-gap, then don't. They will work as designed.
Re: C5 factory spark plug gap problem (rarfinacial)
Denso says the plug does not need to be regapped due to the design of the plug.
Generally, no. The DENSO Iridium Power plug comes pre-set with a protective sleeve over the firing end, to protect the gap from accidental alteration. DENSO Iridium Power’s ultra-efficient firing power compensates for normally recommended gap settings that are smaller than the pre-set value. In the cases of vehicle modifications (nitrous, turbo-chargers, super-chargers, high power ignition systems, etc.), some adjustments may be desired. Or, if you prefer to remain consistent with factory specifications, you may adjust. However, please be careful not to place any stress on the fine center electrode during adjustment. You could accidentally break off the very hard, and therefore brittle, tip.
