It will not void your warranty. It is Dexron compatible. You should do it yourself it is easy. Otherwise get Jiffy Lube or the like as they will be less expensive than the dealer.

For a manual it usually takes just under 4 quarts.

I have done mine twice now, and I usually get in about 3.5 quarts so if you buy 4 quarts you will be OK. Manual says 4.1, but you will never get that much out.

I watch a few tranny fliud changes and about the time you start pumping in the fourth quart it'll start over flowing the fill hole. So that's as much as you can get it. Stop and replace the plug.

Bottom line fill until it start running out of the fill hole. I'm getting ready to change out all my fluids to AMSOIL. So I have made it a point to observe a few changes.

Tom

I'm with ya Tom. I changed the differential fluid a month ago to Amsoil, and I just ordered Amsoil ATF. Going to be Amsoil all around pretty soon!!

For Redline it is D4 ATF

4 quarts of D4 ATF for the six speed and 2 quarts of 75W/90 for the diff. Entirely separate things.

From the Amsoil site:

Will AMSOIL Motor Oils void the warranty of a new vehicle?

Absolutely not! Manufacturers’ warranties are based upon the use of oils meeting specific API Service Classifications, for example, SJ/CF. (AMSOIL lubricants meet the current API Service requirements and, thus, are perfectly suited for use in any new vehicle without affecting the validity of the new vehicle warranty.)

So Amsoil ATF is Dexron III, and safe to use.

Recommended for applications requiring the following specifications:

GM; Dexron II, Dexron III (GM 6297M, 6417M)
Ford; Mercon, Mercon V
Chrysler; ATF+ through ATF+4
Allison; C-3 & C-4
Caterpillar; TO-2 & TO-3
Voith G1363
ZF; TW-ML-14C
Honda; Z-1
Mitsubishi Diamond SP II & III
GM Strasbourg (European Imports) and Opel
Toyota; Type T and T-IV
Vickers I 286S & M2950S

If a dealer has to work on your transmission under warranty, how the heck will he really know what kind of fluid is in it? Does Redline and Amsol look any different from Dextron III? I can see the dealer doing minor work on a C5 transmission, such as replacing seals, but I bet they send them out for anthing major that would involve complete disassembly.

How often should you change the tranny and diff fluids? Dad's got 17K on his right now and I don't think they've ever been changed. Well, the tranny was probably changed when they replaced the 2nd set of snychros, but that was 10k miles ago.
