My car has been hibernating since october. should i decarb immediately after start up or drive for a few days then decarb. I will be doing oil, tranny, and rear end fluids after the decarb also.
To de-carbonize the engine, you can use Sea Foam, GM Top Engine Cleaner, or one of several other solvent-based cleaners. Even plain water will do in a pinch. You can use the power brake vacuum line or the PCV intake nipple to suck the fluid into the intake while the car is idling. Then immediately turn the key off, let the engine sit for 30 minutes, & start it back up. The engine will produce a ton of smoke, then clear up. Drain the oil afterwards, & replace the oil filter. The oil will be really black & funky looking.
GM also makes the Top Engine Cleaner in an aerosol version, that can be sprayed right into the spark plug holes. I like going through the intake better, as many LS1's get carboned up because of oil seeping in through the PCV. I've seen lots of heads that had visible oil marks inside the intake ports. Putting the solvent in through the intake helps clean that out.
I was going to decarb just as preventative maintenance after turning 30000 miles at the end of last season. My question is should I start it up after sitting in the garage for the last 5 months and do the decarb right away or drive it for a few days before doing the decarb. I will be using the GM top engine cleaner
